Collie River Valley Marathon Relay
<http://www.hyperactive.oz.nf/CRVMR/2004/CMR%20results.htm>Results are here (Peter Tomczak, AKC, set a new record in the canoeing leg).
<http://www.iinet.net.au/~rokhor/canoe>Here's a different perspective of The Chute, which provided a little bit of excitement for paddlers during the Collie Descent. One did not realise that <http://www.geo.net.au/~mart/Collie_Descent/2004/Collie_Descent_2004.htm>Marty's pic here, being taken full on - has foreshortening, so the rapid looks a short sharp little number. In reality it was a long, fast and furious drop requiring a bit of manouvring at the water level on the day - just ask Grant Pepper! (Photo by Nancy Cavanaugh, courtesy Marty Wallace)
White Water Park News - from Colin Thorpe, Canoeing Western Australia
Friends of White Water Park are still growing rapidly, now totalling over 7000. People from the Armadale region have shown considerable support with 3467 "Friends" now registerred in the marginal seat of Canning.
We ran a 3 day White Water Park display at Carousel gaining another 1500 "Friends". Thanks to Ian Garthwaite, Colin Scully, Elaine Lennox, Marion Ewing and Glen Turner for their very effective support. Special thanks also to Sue Walker and Glenda Rae for assisting with the resulting data entry.
A public meeting was held in Armadale to enable the local community demonstrate their support. About 60 people attended. Robin Bell who came 4th in the Olympic C1 Slalom shared his Olympic experience with everyone. Robin was a Torchbearer when the Olympic flame went through Sydney. He brought his torch along and it generated much interest.
Of particular importance was the attendance of Don Randall, the Liberal member for Canning and Kay Hallahan, the Labor candidate for the seat of Canning at the forthcoming Federal election. Both expressed their support for basing the White Water Park at Champion Lakes near Armadale. We hope that who ever is elected will lobby very strongly for the White water Park.
We have received a letter of support from the Labor candidate for Canning, Kay Hallahan: <http://www.whitewaterperth.org.au/pages/News.html>http://www.whitewaterperth.org.au/pages/News.html
