Week 1/September
Canoeing
for Cancer Research
Here's a group of mums from Bicton & East Fremantle primary
schools ("The South Bank Cafe Canoeists") who've organised
a big paddle for a worthy cause. They'll be paddling from "The
Left Bank" pub, 9:30am on Friday, 13th September, to collect
money boxes previously left at cafes, restaurants and other riverside
businesses. If you can support them by joining in the paddle
they would be most grateful. Better still, organise some sponsors
to help with the fund raising. There's a free sausage sizzle
at The Left Bank afterwards, plus the pub will donate $1 from
every cup of coffee ordered by the paddlers. For more info' contact
chief organiser, Elle, 9319 2526.

Canning
River Canoe Club - from Rachel Simper
Canning River Canoe Club consists almost entirely of sprint paddlers
or people who love to race. We are more than happy to invite
recreational paddlers or paddlers from other disciplines, but
we do not have clubrooms or many club boats for people to borrow,
so we cater more for people who are already training. We don't
have many social occasions or newsletters, but fees are cheap!
and we have a great deal of experience in sprint paddling if
ever you need any help or advice. We'd love some new members,
so if you have any questions at all, please phone or email me!

Invite
to Training Seminar and Social Evening - Elaine Lennox, SCC
Come along to Swan Canoe Club on Friday 20th September at 7 pm
for a seminar on training for slalom and a chance to sit and
have a chat. Hew Roberts and Robbie Jeffery (members of the
Australian team and junior Australian team on the International
Slalom circuit) have offered to give us some 'up to the minute'
tips on training.
Please bring a plate to share.
See Hew's video of slalom in New Zealand, (where he competed
as a member of the junior team), then we'll finish off with some
further insight into training from the famous (or is it infamous?) Bevan
Dashwood. More info' <mailto:elaine.colin@bigpond.com>elaine.colin@bigpond.com

What's
New at Finn Kayaks?
They are now distributing Australis Canoes (Sydney).
Bushranger - the most popular school canoe. They're big,
they're orange (or yellow, blue or green) and have an optional
centre seat.
Cross Trainer Surf Ski - 4m - 2002 upgrade of a popular
model. Now with a built-in wave deflector, adjustable footrests
and quality ten inch diaghram hatches.
Two new sea kayaks - Salamander, 5.2m and Gecko, 4.2m.
Designed by Alwyn Duke for Terry Bolland's expeditions, now
manufactured in plastic. They feature the traditional Greenlander
hull which is very seaworthy with incredible secondary stability
as well as rubber hatches, aluminiun keel, stainless lift up
rudder, lockable footrest (not sliders), two bulkheads in Gecko
and three in Salamander for titanic buoyancy with an extra
day hatch behind the seat. These craft are also Avon Descent
proven.
