Access
Put in at Nornalup which is on the South Coast Highway, upstream of bridge - toilets, shop, cafe, accomodation.
There may be access to Monastery Landing in summer but you need to check with Walpole CALM ranger for road conditions/closures.For a longer paddle put in at either Coalmine Beach or Rest Point close to Walpole.
Frankland River below South Coast Highway, entering Nornalup Inlet. Deep River enters on far side of Newdegate Island in distance.Paddling Notes
- scenic flatwater paddling;
- sheltered: rudder not necessary;
- paddle upstream to Monastery Landing (6km) in the middle of the forest (it is possible to paddle beyond but you will soon encounter obstacles and flowing water, depending on time of year - do not attempt unless you are skilled in these conditions);
- watch out for occasional log just under water once you are in the forest;
- paddle downstream to where the river enters the inlet (6km) (again, and beyond, depending on your energy!);
- popular with fishing boats - powered craft.
