Paddling Notes:
- very scenic, flatwater paddling;
- varied destinations;
- often windy; wind direction and strength may determine destination. A ruddered boat may be necessary;
- summer sea breeze is typically from the south-east;
- westerlies prevail in winter;
- much shallow water particularly where rivers enter the inlet and at the inlet mouth see aerial photo
- waves at the inlet mouth;
- powered boats, small tourist ferry;
- possible to car shuffle for paddles to Nornalup and up Deep River if return trip is too long;
- recommended put-in is Rest Point - sheltered and scenic, easy parking, easy water access, shop in caravan park.
Suggested itineraries from Rest Point, in order of difficulty:
- Explore Walpole Inlet & Walpole River, paddleable for a short distance.
- Paddle out through the channel to Sandy Beach, Newdegate Island and Deep River Estuary, up the Deep River to Bibbulman Track footbridge, maybe beyond or return to Rest Point at any stage.
- Again through the channel and across to the Frankland River, via Coalmine Beach (shop in caravan park). Paddle to Nornalup (coffee shop) or return to Rest Point at any stage.
- Across Nornalup Inlet to inlet mouth, exploring shoreline near Sealers' Cove and The Depot - walk to Circus Beach and/or Shelly Beach.
