Low Water Level: 0.24m at Walyunga Wooden Gauge; 10.28m DoW Gauge
Photos and notes: R. Khorshid (with a little help from a friend!)*Click on both top and bottom of rapid for pics with greater detail.
Please note:
The river is not paddleable at this level.
Photos were taken to show all the rocks which cause havoc even at somewhat higher levels. The best lines are obvious. At high water levels this is a very fast run down with all rocks covered, keeping control through turbulence, possibly cutting the corner at the bottom.
At low water levels this is a fast run down a couple of short drops, followed by dodging of rocks in shallow water with swift current to the pool at the bottom.
- Enter the drop via approx middle of channel.
- Aim slightly left to miss the rock groin (2) on river right. Be quick; it follows soon after.
- Immediately aim slightly river right to avoid rock in the middle (3) and to follow bend in the main flow.
- Follow this main flow, aiming for narrow gaps (4) between rocks.
- You have to be quick to identify the gaps at the same time as keeping directional control.
- Too far right and you may get caught by this tree (5).
