Popular flat water paddling owing to the many places to explore such as the lower reaches of the Murray River, its delta channels, out to Boodelan Island in the Peel Inlet and the canal developments.

Recommended put in places are either Ravenswood (Check the river level at Ravenswood) for the paddle downstream or Furnissdale on the Serpentine River if you want to paddle upstream or explore the delta - maybe check the wind and tide conditions before setting off. Either do a car shuffle or a return paddle.

From Ravenswood downstream the Murray is wide and eventually is lined with houses, private jetties and boatsheds. There is much small river traffic and many fisherfolk Two canal developments are on river left.

To enter the Peel Inlet take any of the main channels. The first to the river right is a quiet backwater which leads to historic Cooper's Mill on Cooleenup Island, on river left. It's open to the public. Look for a place to land - it's a bit rocky.

The main boating channel, third on river right, also goes past Coolenup Island and there is a small sandy beach on which to land. Walk a short distance on the track to the mill.

Once in the Peel Inlet you may wish to head for Boodelan Island which is a haven for waterbirds. Best paddling is when it's not too windy.

To enter the South Yunderup canals look for the dredged boating channel indicated by the usual markers - there's much shallow water otherwise.

For refreshments there's the casual cafe, The Pelican, 4 km paddle from Furnissdale. 2.5 km further upstream is The Clansman which has lunches and afternoon teas (Tatham Road, off Murray River Drive)

For something stronger stop at Sandy Cove Tavern, Murray Lakes, though it's not recommended to drink alcohol whilst paddling! (but you can finish up here!).

5.5 km upstream from The Pelican is Ravenswood where there is a pub, cafe/deli and Peel District Canoe Club.

River Access
Ravenswood - there's a small sandy beach just under the bridge, river left. Enter from first road left after crossing bridge en route to Pinjarra.

Furnissdale - sandy beaches just downstream of boat ramp, Serpentine River

South Yunderup Canals - follow South Yunderup Road (it becomes Allambi Way) to the end where there is a T junction. Turn left into Warma Way to the boat ramp. There are toilets as well.
