Warren River:
Bannister Road Bridge to Moon's Crossing

Several small rapids and two longer ones. Maybe some logs to climb over or portage. Many stretches of flat water. White water skills necessary.

Put in: Bannister Road Bridge
River right upstream of bridge. Enter from track off Bannister Road, Pemberton side.

Regan Road rapid: looking upstream below second drop. First drop is at top of rapid in distance. Arrow indicates direction of main channel after second drop - sharp turn to river right.
Bannister Road Bridge rapid
First short rapid is just down stream of bridge and can be inspected from bridge before embarking.
Rapid at Regen Road
Can be inspected easily from river left bank where there is a bush barbecue/picnic area and road, river left. There is a good track, leading downstream, some metres from the bank, just above the sword grass. This is a long rapid which consists of a few small drops (but they will catch the unwary) and then a sharp right turn leads you to the last drop which may need inspection (from rocks in middle of river?) beforehand to make sure there is no new log across the channel which disappears out of sight.
Other long rapid - 'a big S'
Not long before Moon's Crossing. Scout from river left bank. Enter from far right down small chute. As soon as practicable cut over to the left of the river above some bushes and follow the water down this side - dodging the scattered rocks if water is relatively low - preferable to the right side (see Tony Henshaw's story for the right and the wrong way to do this rapid).

Moon's Crossing: Green arrow shows river right take-out. Red arrow shows one of the main channels going over a two metre drop out of sight.

Moon's Crossing
Immediately after the crossing there are several significant and technical drops and it is advised to take out before the rapid. Take out on either side of the summer crossing, but take care not to get swept down into the main flow over the drops. Road access is good on both sides - normal vehicles are ok.

If you are continuing on to River Road (though not advised) portaging of this rapid is recommended. The route disappears from view towards trees. If you are determined to do this rapid and you have the skills, scouting (on the river right bank?) is essentiial owing to the difficulty of seeing the route from the top of the rapid and logs.

Photos taken early October, 2002, when water level was fairly low, but still paddleable.
