YOUR COMPLETE ENGINEERING SERVICE

Company History

The company's first workshop was established in 1986 shown above with Peter Rolliston and his son, Jack.

15 years and two workshops later the new premises are a little bit bigger...

The current workshop was a project undertaken by Rolliston Engineering in 1999/2000. The various stages of the purchase, dismantling and re-erection were documented and can be viewed by clicking on the workshop.

Rolliston Engineering was commenced in 1986 by its owner Mr. Peter Rolliston who has qualifications in Mechanical Engineering, 1st Class Engineering Welding and Design Drafting.  He started the company after many years as Production Manager and as the Superintendent of Workshops both in Australia and overseas.

Born in Perth WA and growing up in Albany where he served his apprenticeship in first class Engineering welding, Mr. Rolliston completed his Mechanical Engineering qualifications in Tasmania in l979.  Rolliston Engineering has grown steadily over the years and recorded its best year in 1998-1999 with sales just under the $1,000,000 mark.  New premises were completed and occupied in 2000 with an under roof area of 1100sqm and a further l500sqm of yard operations.  Its activities are varied and include special purpose machinery and equipment, electric train coupler components, chemical equipment, environmental equipment and materials handling equipment.  Maintenance contracts include baggage-handling systems at Ansett, Qantas, Perth International Airport, AQWA and Leeuwin Star Food Processing.

Specializing in mechanical fabrications and machining combined with design has enabled the company to enter into areas of opportunity and to successfully carry out operations to clients' requirements.  Examples include large casting repairs such as earthmover transmissions, train sumps and industrial drives which have all been successfully repaired saving clients tens of thousands of dollars.  Rolliston Engineering has built up a reputation in the industry of 'can do'; and at a good price too. Our client base extends through airlines, Defence Dept, Voith Australia, Schaku Australia, Westrail and Kleen Chemicals to name but a few.

Sales during the 1999-2000 financial year was to be down on the previous year due to the relocation of the factory and office. The disruption of this move reduced sales by approximately 20% for that year not taking market forces into consideration.  The new premises however have enabled the pursuing of greater opportunities, as we are now able to process and manufacture projects, operations and services formerly out of reach due to capacity.

A new market is environmental engineering and Rolliston Engineering has been active over the last two years in both process R&D and equipment R&D. It has become partners in Australian Earth Care Solutions to ensure the development of both technology and equipment for that market.
