What is Jishukan?

Jishukan is one of the Martial Arts directed solely to self defence.  It combines techniques using Kempo, Jujitsu and Jojitsu in counters to attack and is not meant to be a competitive sport in it's complete form. There is no competition as such between individuals, but the desire to improve oneself is encouraged - as the school's motto sums it up - " Be master of yourself ".  This means strict control over ones own thoughts, acts and emotions - particularly when under pressure.

As Jishukan is self defence, it's aims are simple, that is if one is threatened with attack, the first defence and best defence is to retreat from the attack - i.e. leave the area.  If this course of action proves to be impracticable, then the student of Jishukan has the knowledge to counter attack and remove the threat in the quickest possible way.  This often means disabling the attacker.

As the student learns more advanced counters, a grading system is employed to assess the students competence and knowledge.  These grades are awarded by the more senior instructors approved by the Association, and a student only attempts a grading when ready.  No one is forced to progress faster than is comfortable for themselves.

The benefits of Jishukan are many fold.  The most obvious are: -
bulletBetter security of personal safety
bulletHigher than average fitness
bulletIncreased confidence in everyday life

Jishukan is ideally suited for the average person, regardless of their physical capabilities.  The techniques are adaptable to suit the individual and can be equally carried out by the individual regardless of gender or size and strength.  It has proved an ideal style of self defence for women as well as men regardless of age.
