PREDECESSORS AND SHORT HISTORY: The Banaili Raj is an extensive estate in Bihar, comprising properties in the Districts of Bhagalpur, Monghyr, Sonthal, Pergannas, Purneah, Maldah, and Darbhanga. The founder of the family was Raja Dula Sinha Chaudhry Bahadur, who was originally a wealthy Maithil Brahmin Zamindar, residing in the district of Purnea, on his death, after some litigation, the estate was divided equally between his two sons.   • Raja DULA SINHA Chaudhry Bahadur, Zamindar of Banaili 1800/1821, he bought properties in Monghyr, Bhagalpur and Malda in around 1800 and established the family residence at Banaili and gave the family its current name, he was granted the title of Raja Bahadur, by the British for his help to them in their war against Nepal; married and had issue, two sons. He died in 1821.

  • Raja BEDANAND SINHA Bahadur, Zamindar of Banaili 1821/1851, born 1778, he bought the Mahalat of Kharakpur in a revenue sale in 1840 and is responsible for the creation of much of the family's wealth; he sponsored and took part in many wrestling competitions; Author of "Bedanand Vinod", a book on Ayurveda; married and had issue. He died in 1851.

  • Raja LEELANAND SINHA Bahadur, Zamindar of Banaili 1851/1883, he added to the estate by purchasing Chandpur Husain and taluk Khajuria, he was noted for his generosity towards his ryots and the needy, and is still remembered affectionately by the people of the Bhagalpur division; he moved the family residence from Banaili to Ramnagar in Purnia district and later to to Champanagar, 22 kms from Purnia town in Bihar; married and had issue. He died in 1883.

  • Raja PADMANAND SINHA Bahadur, Zamindar of Banaili 1883/18xx, during his time in 1888, litigation was commenced between himself and his infant stepbrothers Kumar (later Raja) Kalanand Sinha and Kumar (later Raja) Kirtyanand Sinha, which led to the partition of the estate into nine-annas and seven-annas shares under a compromise decree; the seven-annas share was again subdivided in 1903 into halves in a suit between the Raja and his son; he then sold all his interest to his son in September 1905; married Rani Sitabati, and had issue.

  • Raja CHANDRANAND SINHA Bahadur, Zamindar of Banaili (Seven Annas share, Junior) 1903/1905 and Zamindar of Banaili (Seven Annas share) 1905/1908; married Rani Chandrabati [alias Gangabati], Zamindarani of Banaili (Seven Annas Share). He died 1908.
  • Rani Chandrabati, Zamindarani of Banaili (Seven Annas share) 1908/-, she was declared a disqualified proprietor, and her share of the estate was taken under the management of the Court of Wards, who have given a lease of this share for 12 years to the proprietors of the nine annas share of the estate and who are the principal creditors of the seven annas share of the estate.

  • Raja KALANANDA SINHA Bahadur, joint Zamindar of Banailli (Nine Annas Share) 188x/1922, he moved to a new Deorhi that he built in Garh Banaili Purniah district after the death of his father; he was granted the title of Raja Bahadur; he attended the Coronation Durbar of 1911; married and had issue, two sons. He died in 1922.
    • Kumar Ramanand Sinha, joint Zamindar of Banailli (Nine Annas Share) 1922/1940; born 1901, married twice, and had issue, one daughter. He died 24th August 1940.
      • Kumari Jagatmaya Devi, born posthumously on 3rd October 1940.
    • Kumar Krishnanand Sinha, joint Zamindar of Banailli (Nine Annas Share) 1922/1958, born 1907, died 1958.
  • The Hon. Raja KIRTYANAND SINHA Bahadur, joint Zamindar of Banailli (Nine Annas Share) 188x/1938, born 1883, educated at Allahabad University; Member of the Legislative Council of Bihar; President of the Bihar and Orissa Provincial Co-operative Bank, Ltd.; he was granted the title of Raja Bahadur in 1919; married Rani Prabhavati Devi, died 1975, and had issue, six sons and three daughters. He died in 1938.
    • Rajkumar Shyamanand Singh, born 27th July 1916, an accomplished singer, he learnt classical music from Ustad Vishmadev Chattopadyay from 1936 to 1939, and then from Ustad Bachu Khan Sahib of Agra, from 1940 to 1963; he was one of the chief patrons of the All India Music Conference and presented the convocation address at the 11th All India Music Conference of the The Prayag Sangit Samiti at Allahabadh on 19th December 1948; an excellent Billiards player, he won the Bihar Championship in Billiard, many times in his playing career;
