Predecessors and Short History: The state was founded in 1728, when the two sons of Raja Kaloji received from Baji Rao Peshwa the grant of the Dewas State in common.   1. Raja JIVAJIRAO KALOJI PUAR, 1st Raja of Dewas-Junior 1728/1774, married and had issue. He died 15th August 1774.

  2. Raja SADASHIVRAO I JIVAJIRAO PUAR, 2nd Raja of Dewas-Junior 1774/1790, married and had issue. He died 2nd December 1790.

  3. Raja RUKMANGADRAO SADASHIVRAO PUAR, 3rd Raja of Dewas-Junior 1790/1817, he adopted his successor from the Supekar Junior branch; married and had issue.

  4. Raja ANANDRAO II JIVAJIRAO PUAR, 4th Raja of Dewas-Junior 1817/1840, he entered into a Treaty with the British in 1818, by which his state was assured of protection; he adopted his successor from the Supekar Junior branch in 1837, married and had adoptive issue.

  5. Raja HAIBATRAO I ANANDRAO PUAR, 5th Raja of Dewas-Junior 1840/1864, he adopted his successor from the Supekar Junior branch, but a natural son was born to him, married and had issue, as well as an adopted son. He died 1864.

    • (A) Shrimant Rao Sahib Jivajirao Puar, he was adopted with a view to succeeding to the State, but a natural son was subsequently born; married twice, including Shrimant Yashodabai, and had issue. He died 1891.

  6. HH Raja NARAYANRAO HAIBATRAO alias Dada Saheb Puar, 6th Raja of Dewas-Junior 1864/1892, born 20th December 1860, succeeded 8th August 1864 (#1), educated at Daly College, Indore, he rendered good service during the Mutiny, married and had adoptive issue. He died 19th January 1892.

  7. HH Maharaja Sir MALHARRAO NARAYANRAO alias Baba Saheb Puar K.C.S.I., 7th Maharaja of Dewas-Junior 1892/1934, Maharaja [cr.1918], K.C.S.I. [cr.1917], born 18th August 1877, adopted by his uncle in January 1892; educated at Daly College, Indore; succeeded 23rd May 1892; formally invested with ruling powers in November 1897; he was granted the K.I.H. Gold Medal in June 1912; he was granted the title of Maharaja as a hereditary distinction in 1918; married (unequally) Shrimant Prabhavati Bai Saheba, and had issue, not in line of succession. He died 4th February 1934.

  8. HH Maharaja Shri Mani SADASHIVRAO II JIVAJIRAO alias Khase Saheb Puar, 8th Maharaja of Dewas-Junior 1934/1943, born 12th July 1887 or 13th August 1887, educated at the local Victoria High School, at Daly College, Indore, at Mayo College, Ajmer and with the Imperial Cadet Corps, Dehradun; he passed the London Matriculation and entered Lincoln's Inn to study Law; he worked as Home Member of Gwalior State; he succeeded his brother to the gadi in February 1934; President of the Maratha Education Conference in 1917; President of the Kurmi Kshatriya Conference in 1919 and 1933; President of the Ayurvedic Conference in 1936; he was elected a Member of the Bombay Legislative Conference in 1925; Member of the Standing Committee of the Chamber of Princes; Sponsor of the Shri Shivaji Memorial of Poona; married HH Akhand Soubhagyavati Maharani Parvati Bai Saheb (née Angre) (#2), and had issue, one son and two daughters. He died 2nd December 1943.

      • Sardar Pratapsinh Rao Shitole-Ankalikar, Sardesai of Ankli, married Maharajkumari Vijayaraje Puar, daughter of HH Maharaja Vikramsinharao Tukojirao alias Nana Saheb Puar, 7th Maharaja of Dewas-Senior, and his wife, Shrimant Soubhagyavati Pramila Raje alias Akkasaheb Dafle, daughter of Meherban Shrimant Ramrao II Amritrao alias Abasaheb Dafle, Chief of Jath, and has issue.

HH Maharaja Sir YESHWANTRAO SADASHIVRAO alias Bhau Saheb Puar, 9th and last Maharaja of Dewas-Junior 1943/1965, born 3rd March 1905, a Matriculate of London University; married 1stly, HH Maharani Padma Raje Maharaj (Japtankar Mulukh-Kolhapur), married 2ndly, 1942, HH Maharani Menaka Devi, daughter of HH Maharaja Jitendra Narayan Bhup Bahadur of Cooch Behar, and his wife, HH Maharani Indira Devi, and had issue, two daughters. He died 1965.
