PREDECESSORS AND SHORT HISTORY: The state was founded in 1728, when the two sons of Raja Kaloji received from Baji Rao Peshwa the grant of the Dewas State in common.   3. Raja TUKOJIRAO II KRISHNAJIRAO PUAR, 3rd Raja of Dewas-Senior 1789/1824, he entered into a Treaty with the British in 1818, by which his state was assured of protection; married and had ?adoptive issue.

  5. HH Raja KRISHNAJIRAO II RUKMANGADRAO alias BABA SAHEB PUAR, 5th Raja of Dewas-Senior 1860/1899, born in November 1849, he succeeded to the gadi on 18th March 1861 (#1), married and had issue.

HH Maharaja Sir TUKOJIRAO III KRISHNAJIRAO PUAR K.C.S.I., 6th Maharaja of Dewas-Senior 1899/1937, born 1st January 1888, he succeeded his uncle to the gadi on 13th October 1899; he was educated privately and at Daly College, Indore and at Mayo College, Ajmer; he was invested with ruling powers on 24th February 1908; he was granted the title of Maharaja as a hereditary distinction in 1918, he was made a K.C.S.I. in 1911, married 1908, HH Maharani Radhabai Akka Sahib of Kolhapur, and had issue. He died 21st December 1937.

HH Maharaja VIKRAMSINHARAO TUKOJIRAO alias NANA SAHEB PUAR B.A, 7th Maharaja of Dewas-Senior 1937/1948, born 4th April 1910, Maharaja of Kolhapur 1948/1983 as HH Sir Maharajah Shahaji II Chhatrapati, President of the General Council (Daly College) 1942/1946; married in December 1926, Shrimant Soubhagyavati Pramila Raje alias Akkasaheb Dafle, daughter of Meherban Shrimant Ramrao II Amritrao alias Abasaheb Dafle, Chief of Jath, and had issue. He died 9th May1983
