PREDECESSORS and SHORT HISTORY: The State was founded by Raja Urdhab Deb, a descendant of one of two brothers named Lakshman Mahratta and Bharat Mahratta, scions of the family of the Khemdi Raja in Ganjam, who established themselves in this area of the country in 1554.   • Raja Bahadur NABA KISHORE CHANDRA SINGH Mardaraj Jagadev, Raja of Hindol 1906/1960, born 14th June 1891 (#2)(#3 p.204), 22nd in descent from Uddhab Deb, he succeeded to the gadi on 10th February 1906 (#3 p.204), and was invested with ruling powers on 20th October 1913; educated at Ravenshaw Collegiate School, Cuttack and Rajkumar College, Raipur (Diploma); M.R.A.S., F.R.S.A. (London); married 1stly, 1912, the eldest daughter of the Raja Saheb of Khariar, married 2ndly, the only daughter of the Raja Saheb of Thuamaul, Rampur [possibly named Rani Ratna Prabha Devi], and had issue. He died 1960.

(Orissa) 1957/1971 (three terms); Chairman, Estimates Committee; Chairman, Assurance Committee; married in Hindol, Rajkumar Rani Shilla Kumari, and had issue, one son and two daughters.   • Raja Bahadur PRATAP CHANDRA SINGH Mardaraj Jagadev, Raja of Hindol 1960/1991, born 12th October 1917 or 12th December 1918 in Cuttack, Orissa, educated in Raj Kumar College, Raipur (M.P.), trained as Honourary Magistrate by the Government of Orissa, married 1938 in Kathiwada, Rani Pushpendra Kumari, daughter of Rana Thakur Sahib Onkar Sinh of Kathiwada (M.P.), and had issue. He died 12th July 1991.
