PREDECESSORS AND SHORT HISTORY: The state originally formed part of the dominions of the Nizamshahi Kings of Ahmadnagar. They were conquered by Mughal forces who appointed officers to govern the territory till 1618. In that year, Sidi Surul Khan was appointed Governor until 1620 when he was succeeded by Sidi Yakut Khan and then by Sidi Amber in 1621, who achieved independence and became the founder of a dynasty.   • Nawab Sidi IBRAHIM KHAN III, Nawab of Janjira 1848/1879, in 1870, several Sidi Sardars of Janjira revolted and deposed him, placing his minor son on the throne, however he was reinstated by the Government provided he fulfilled certain conditions, his Sardar submitted to him in 1873; married and had issue. He died 1879.
    • Nawabzada Sidi Muhammed Buxi Khan, a son of a nika wife of inferior rank, he was selected as Nawab by some nobles of the state, but his younger brother was selected instead as he was a legitimate son by a lady of equal rank; married and had issue.

  • HH Nawab Sidi Sir AHMAD KHAN SIDI IBRAHIM KHAN G.C.I.E., Nawab of Janjira 1879/1922, born 1862, G.C.I.E. [cr.1906], K.C.I.E. [cr.1895] (#1), educated at Rajkumar College, Rajkot; he succeeded to the gadi on 28th January 1879, his salute was raised from 9 to 11 guns in 1903, and for his services during WWI a personal salute of 13 guns was granted on 1st January 1918, and a local salute of 13 guns was granted on 1st January 1921, he married 1stly, Ahmedbibi, died 1885, married 2ndly, 1886, Nazli Begum, married 3rdly, 1913, HH Nawab Kulsum Begum Saheba [née Kalsumbibi] (a second cousin), appointed Regent of Janjira during her sons minority; and had issue, one son. He died 2nd May 1922 (#2).

  • HH Nawab Sidi MUHAMMED KHAN II SIDI AHMAD KHAN, Nawab Saheb of Janjira 1922/1972, born 7th March 1914 (#3 p.314), he succeeded to the gadi on 2nd May 1922 (#3 p.314) and was invested with full ruling powers on 9th November 1933; educated at Rajkumar College, Rajkot (Diploma, 1930) and the Deccan College, Poona; he undertook administrative training in Mysore State; enjoys a permanent local salute of 13 guns, married 14th November 1933, Nawabzadi Rabia Sultan Jaha Begum Sahiba [HH Nawab Pari Bano Begum Sahiba of Janjira], born 23rd December 1913 in Jaora, daughter of Lt.Col. HH Fakhrud-Daulah Nawab Sir Mohammed Iftikhar Ali Khan Sahib Bahadur Saulat-e-Jang, Nawab of Jaora, and his second wife, Mumtaz Mahal Begum Sahiba, and had issue, one son and four daughters. He died 1st April 1972.
