PREDECESSORS AND SHORT HISTORY: The founder of the state was Malek Khurram Khan, who captured Jhalore in the 14th century. The 12th ruler of the house, Ghazni Khan, received Dantiwada, Dessa and Palanpur in 1597. The capital was established at Rampur at the end of the 17th century. In 1817, the Diwan agreed to receive an agent from Baroda State in the confidence of the British Government, whose suggestions he was bound to follow in all matters relating to his government.   29. HH Diwan Mahakhan Nawab Sahib Sir SHER MUHAMMED KHAN Zubdat ul-Mulk G.C.I.E., K.C.I.E., 28th Nawab of Palanpur 1877/1918, born 2nd January 1852, Nawab Sahib (Hereditary) [cr.1910], G.C.I.E. [cr.1898], K.C.I.E. [cr.1893] (#1), he was granted the title of Nawab, with the style of His Highness and his personal salute was raised from 11 to 13 guns, in recognition of his loyalty to the government; married and had issue, three sons. He died 20th May 1957.
