PRESENT RULER: Chief of Ramdurg, ranks as a First Class Sardar in Southern Maratha Country.
PREDECESSORS AND SHORT HISTORY: Subjugated in 1778 by Haidar Ali of Mysore, and further demands were made in 1784 by Tipu Sultan, which were rejected. Ramdurg Fort was blockaded and capitulated after seven months, when the ruler, Venkat Rao, and his family were taken prisoner and sent to Mysore where they remained till 1799. He was restored to Nargund, while Ram Rao received Ramdurg, a division which continued till 1810. A further division was made by the Peshwa, with the sons of Sachiv Ramrao, receiving equal shares.   • Sachiv Bhaskarrao II Dadajirao Bhave, 8th and last Chief of Nargund 1842/1858, he rebelled against the British authorities, was defeated and deposed on 3rd June 1858, when the state was forfeited to the Crown. He was hanged on 12th June 1858 in Belgaum.
