PREDECESSORS AND SHORT HISTORY: A major town southeast of Udaipur, it was the estate of Kunwar Khandal Singh, who, with the title of 'Rawat', held first rank amongst the nobles of Mewar (the First 16 Umraos), it later became the capital of the Chundawat clan. Estate holders were ....

Rawat CHUNDAJI, 1st Rawat Saheb of Salumber, eldest son and heir of Maharana Lakha of Mewar, he renounced his claim to the throne of Mewar in favour of his younger brother, but continued to serve the house of Mewar with utmost loyalty throughout his life, for which the Rawats of Salumber were honoured by being authorized by the Maharana to sign all important documents of State on his behalf; he married 1stly, Rani Balecha Chauhaniji Navrang De, daughter of Hemji, married 2ndly, Rani Sindhal Rathoriji Ladu Kanwar, daughter of Rao Panchayanji and grand daughter of Rawal Kikaji, married 3rdly, Rani Rathoriji Roop Kanwar, daughter of Thakur Ran Singhji, married 4thly, Rani Chauhaniji Parvat Kanwar, daughter of Rao Dungar Singhji, married 5thly, Rani Hada Chauhaniji Kalu Kanwar, daughter of Rao Balji, married 6thly, Rani Deora Chauhaniji Keshar Kanwar, daughter of Rao Surtan Singhji, and had issue.

Rawat KANDHALJI I, 2nd Rawat Saheb of Salumber, he took part in battles against Nawab Muhammad Shah of Malwa and Nawab Ahmadshah of Gujarat, he also took part in an attack on Nagor along with Rana Kumbha and fought bravely in the battle of Mandalgarh against Jafar Khan; married 1stly, Rani Sankhliji Bar Kanwar, daughter of Sinhaji, married 2ndly, Rani Rathoriji Bal Kanwar, daughter of Bharmalji, married 3rdly, Rani Chauhaniji Ratan Kanwar, daughter of Ram Singhji, married 4thly, Rani Deoriji Kushal Kanwar, daughter of Hathiji, and had issue, four sons. He was killed by Rao Mulraj of Idar in Nae Village near Udaipur some time after 1473.

  3. Rawat RATAN SINGHJI I, 3rd Rawat Saheb of Salumber, married and had issue, thirteen sons, the Ratnawat sub-clan of the Chundawat clan. He was killed on 17th March 1527 at the Battle of Khanwa.

    • Thakur Karmji, he was granted the Jagiri of Sakriya Khedi, Bhopat Khedi, Sobhji Ka Kheda, Chundawato Ki Khedi and Dewali. He was killed in battle in the Second Sack of Chittaur.

  4. Rawat DUDAJI, 4th Rawat Saheb of Salumber, he was killed sp in battle against Nawab Bahadur Shah of Gujarat in the Second Sack of Chittaur.

  5. Rawat SAINDASJI, 5th Rawat Saheb of Salumber, married and had issue, one son. He was killed on 24th February 1568 in the Third Sack of Chittaur.

  6. Rawat KHENGARJI, 6th Rawat Saheb of Salumber, married 1stly, Rani Khuman Kanwar, daughter of Ramdas Rathore, son of Maldas, married 2ndly, Rani Narbad Kanwar, daughter of Ramdas Solanki, son of Kalyandas, married 3rdly, Rani  Nand Kanwar, daughter of Maha Singh Songira, married 4thly, Rani Ratan Kanwar, daughter of Rao Chatarman Rathore, married 5thly, Rani Maha Kanwar, daughter of Dunger Singh Solanki, married 6thly, Rani Raj Kanwar Bahela, daughter of Ram Singh, married 7thly, Rani Vaje Kanwar, daughter of Randhir, married 8thly, Rani Saras Kanwar, daughter of Madho Singh, married 9thly, Rani Vaje Kanwar, daughter of Sher Singh Rathore, married 10thly, Rani Abhay Kanwar, daughter of Dunger Singh Rathore, he married a further ten wives and maintained fifteen paswanji, and had issue, twenty-one sons. Rawat JAIT SINGHJI, 8th Rawat Saheb of Salumber married 1stly, Rani Hem Kanwar Hadiji, daughter of Rao Hariraj, married 2ndly, Rani Hari Kanwar Chauhanji, daughter of Ratan Singh, married 3rdly, Rani Ratan Kanwar Jhaliji, daughter of Jai Singh, married 4thly, Rani Maha Kanwar Rathorji, daughter of Ram Singh, married 5thly, Rani Ras Kanwar Rathorji, daughter of Kalyandas from Jodhpur, and had issue, two sons. He was killed in battle at Untala on the side of Maharana Amar Singhji I against Padshah Jahangir.

Rawat KUBER SINGHJI, 16th Rawat Saheb of Salumber, married 1stly, Rani Ummed Kanwar, daughter of Jai Singh Mertiya, married 2ndly, Rani Adot Kanwar, daughter of Vikramdutt Panwar, married 3rdly, Rani Takhat Kanwar, daughter of Anop Singh Rathore, plus a further three more wives, and had issue, six sons and two daughters.

                • Kunwar Inder Singh of Bhadesar, born 24th August 1875, adopted by Rawat Pratap Singh of Bhainsrorgarh, and succeeded there as Rawat Inder Singh of Bhainsrorgarh.
                • Kunwar Tej Singh of Bhadesar, adopted by Rawat Jodh Singh II of Salumber (see below), but died at an early age before succeeding there.
                • Kunwar Man Singh of Bhadesar, he also was adopted into Salumber, but was overlooked in the succession there.
        • Kunwar Hamir Singh, adopted by Rawat Bhairav Singh of Bhadesar and succeeded there as Rawat Hamir Singh, 2nd Rawat Sahib of Bhadesar, married and had issue. He died 1855.

  27. Rawat Shri KHUMAN SINGHJI, 26th Rawat Saheb of Salumber 1930/1980, born 14th March 1912 as Kunwar Khuman Singh, younger son of Rawat Inder Singh of Bhainsrorgarh, he succeeded by adoption to Salumber, educated at Mayo College, Ajmer; married 1928, and had issue. He died 14th January 1980.
    • Kunwar Pushpendra Singh, born 1991 Samvat, married Kunwarani Himmat Kumari, daughter of Maj.-Gen. Rao Manohar Singhji M.B.E. of Bedla, and had issue. He died vp.

He died 27th May 2002.
