PREDECESSORS AND SHORT HISTORY: The state was founded about 1700.   • Shrimant Maharaj Shri YESHWANTRAO HINDURAO ANNASAHEB GHORPADE Mamlukatmadar Senapati, Raja of Sandur 1928/1996, born 15th November 1908 (#2), he succeeded to the gadi on 5th May 1928 by adoption from Gajendragad, he was invested with ruling powers in 1930; married 22nd December 1929, the eldest daughter of Lieutenant-Colonel Umdat ul-Mulk Raj Rajendra Maloji Narsingh Rao Shitole Deshmukh Rustam Jang Bahadur of Gwalior, and had issue. He died in October 1996.

  • Shrimant Maharaj Shri MURARIRAO YESHWANTRAO GHORPADE Mamlukatmadar Senapati, Raja of Sandur 1996/2011, born 7th December 1931, educated at Sandur, at Bangalore and at Cambridge University (M.A. 1952); he  had an active political career and was Finance Minister, Government of Karnataka, from 1972 to 1977; he was the chairman and managing director of Sandur Manganese and Iron Ores Limited; a well-known and prize-wining wildlife photographer, he was awarded the fellowship of the Royal Photographic Society of Great Britain (FRPS) and the Excellence De la Federation Internationale De L’Art Photographique (EFIAP) in 1976; in 1983, he became the first wildlife photographer to receive the prestigious international award of Master Photographer (MFIAP – Master Federation Internationale De L’Art Photographique); he was the driving force behind the setting up of the Daroji Bear Sanctuary near Sandur; author of "Sunlight and Shadows: An Indian Wildlife Photographer’s Diary", first published in 1983 in London by Victor Gollancz, a Recipient of an Honorary Doctorate from Mysore University in 2006, married Rani Vasundhara Raje Gaekwad, daughter of HH Maharaja Gaekwad Sir Pratapsinhrao Gaekwad Sena Khas Khel Shamsher Bahadur of Baroda, and his first wife, HH Maharani Shanta Devi Saheb, and had issue. He died 29th October 2011 at a private hospital in Bangalore.

    • Rajkumar Shrimant Kartikeya Raje Murarirao Ghorpade, born 9th November 1959 in Baroda, Chairman and Managing Director of Kartikeya Manganese and Iron Ore Pvt. Ltd.; married 5th December 1988 in Baroda, Shrimati Ambika Raje Ghorpade, daughter of Shrimant Prabhatsinh Gaekwad of the Baroda family, and his wife, Shrimati Sushiladevi, and has issue, two daughters.
      • Shrimant Krutika Raje Ghorpade, born 19th October 1989, presently (2011) studying for a B.Sc. in Economics from Royal Holloway, London University; married 4th/5th February 2017, Akshay Bhansali, son of Dr. Sidharth Bhansali, and his wife, Shrimant Maharajkumari Yashodhara Scindia, daughter of  HH Maharajadhiraj Hisam-us-Saltanat Sir Jivajirao Scindia Alijah Bahadur, 9th Maharaja of Gwalior.
      • Shrimant Anushka Raje Ghorpade, born 10th March 1992, presently (2011) studying for a B.Sc. in Hospitality from César Ritz in Switzerland.
