  • HM King RADAMA I, 6th King of Ambohimanga 1810/1817 and 1st King of Madagascar 1817/1828, born 1792 in Ambohimanga, he successfully expanded his realm to the Indian Ocean in 1817 after seizing the eastern port town of Antsiranana with an army of 30,000 soldiers; he was a shrewd diplomat and successfully played off competing British and French interests while opening Madagascar to exchanges with foreign powers; he signed the Anglo-Merina treaty of friendship with the British envoy, Captain Le Sage in 1817; he invited the Protestant London Missionary Society (LMS) to establish schools and churches, and who adapted the Latin alphabet for the Malagasy language, they set up craft industries in wood, metal, leather, and cotton, and with their printing press they translated and printed Bibles in the Malagasy language and oversaw his plan to establish dozens of schools offering compulsory literacy courses and basic education for the nobles of Imerina; with British support, his military became the dominant force allowing him to unify the island, so that by the time he died, only the southern lands of the Mahafaly, Antandroy and Bara weren't under his control; married twelve Great Wives, including 1stly, HM Queen Ranavalona I (qv), married 2ndly, 1821, Princess Rasalimo, daughter of King Ramitraho, King of Menabe, died after 1862, married 3rdly, Princess Rangita, daughter of Prince Andriantsalamanjaka, and his wife, Princess Ratovanandriana, and had issue. He died 27th July 1828 in Antananarivo most likely of alcoholic poisoning.

  • HM Queen Ranavalona I, 2nd Queen of Madagascar 1828/1861, born 1782/1790, daughter of Prince Andriantsalamanjaka, and his wife, Princess Rabodonandriamtompo, married 1stly, HM King Radama I (qv), married 2ndly, Rainiharo, died 10th February 1852, Prime Minister of Madagascar 1833/1852, son of Andriantsilavo, and she had issue by General Prince Andriamihaja, died 1833. She died spl on 16th August 1861 in Tananarive, buried in Ambohimanga.

  • HM King RADAMA II, 3rd King of Madagascar 1861/1863, born 23rd September 1829 in Tananarive, married 1stly, about 1847, HM Queen Rasoherina (see below), married 2ndly, HM Queen Ranavalona II (see below), and had issue by Mary Rasoamieja. He died spl on 12th May 1863 in Tananarive.

  • HM Queen Ranavalona II [Ramoma], 5th Queen of Madagascar [1.4.1868] - [13.7.1883], born 1829 in Ambatomanoina, near Antananarivo, daughter of Prince Razakaratrimo, and his wife, Princess Rafarasoa Ramasindrazana, she was crowned Queen on 3rd September 1868, educated by Protestant missionaries who greatly influenced her religious and political views, and she became increasingly favorable toward the beliefs of the Christian religion, during her reign the problem of deforestation was considered and she authorized construction using brick and other durable materials within the walls of Antananarivo, which had previously been forbidden by King Andrianampoinimerina; married 1stly, HM King Radama II (see above), married 2ndly, 21st February 1869 in Tananarive, Rainilaiarivony, born 30th January 1828, died 17th July 1896 in Algiers, buried 4th October 1900 in Isoraka, Prime Minister of Madagascar 1864/1895, son of Rainiharo, Prime Minister of Madagascar 1833/1852, and his wife, Rabodomiarana. She died sp on 13th July 1883 in Tananarive, and was buried in Ambohimanga, later in 1897 her remains were re-interred in Tomb of the Queens, Rovan' Antananarivo.
  • Queen Ranavalona III (1861-1917)HM Queen Ranavalona III, 6th Queen of Madagascar [13.7.1883] - [28.2.1897], Head of the Royal House of Madagascar [28.2.1897] - [23.5.1917], deposed on 28th February 1897; born 22nd November 1861 in Manjakazafy, daughter of Prince Andriantsimianatra, and his wife, Princess Raketaka; crowned Queen on 22nd November 1883; married 1stly, Prince Ratrimoarivony, born 1857, died 8th May 1883, married 2ndly, 1883 in Tananarive, Rainilaiarivony, born 30th January 1828, died 17th July 1896 in Algiers, buried 4th October 1900 in Isoraka, Prime Minister of Madagascar 1864/1895, son of Rainiharo, Prime Minister of Madagascar 1833/1852, and his wife, Rabodomiarana, and had adoptive issue. She died sp on 23rd May 1917 in Algiers, buried in the Saint-Eugène Cemetery in Algiers, re-interred in October 1938 in Tananarive.

  • Princess Marie Louise Razafinkeriefo, 7th Head of the Royal House of Madagascar [23.5.1917] - [18.1.1948], born 1897, educated in France, she was in receipt of a small pension from the French government throughout her lifetime, but chose to pursue a career in nursing, for which she was awarded the Legion of Honor for her medical services during World War II, married 24th June 1921 (div.), André Bosshard, a French agricultural engineer. She died sp on 18th January 1948 in Bazoches-sur-le-Betz and was buried in Montreuil, France.
