                    Sultan IsmailHRH Sultan MAHMUD ISKANDAR Alhaj ibni al-Marhum Sultan Ismail D.K., 8th Yang di-Pertuan Agong of Malaysia [26.4.1984] - ]25.4.1989] and 4th Sultan of Johore [10.5.1981] - [22.1.2010], born 8th April 1932 at the Semayam Palace in Johor Bahru, educated at Ngee Heng Primary School in Johor Bahru, at the English College (now called Sultan Abu Bakar College) in Johor Bahru, at the Trinity Grammar School in Australia and finally at College in the United Kingdom where he finished his schooling in 1956; afterwards he served as a Cadet Officer with the Johor Civil Service; he also received basic military training with the Johor Military Forces and was the Commander of this military force for a period; he was formally appointed the Tengku Mahkota (Crown Prince) on 29th April 1981 and was installed as the 4th Sultan of Johor on 11th May 1981, appointed as the Chancellor of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia on 5th April 1982, installed as the 8th Yang di-Pertuan Agong of Malaysia on 15th November 1984, he enjoyed playing polo and boardsailing, and from 1982 boardsailing was included as one of the activities carried out during the celebration of his birthday, later becoming an international championship, he also had a passion for helicopters and ships, owning several, in his youth he raced cars and once won the Johor Grand Prix, held for the first time during the 1960's in Johor Bahru; married 1stly 1956 (div.), Josephine Trevorrow, married 2ndly, 20th August 1961, Tengku Zanariah binti Tengku Ahmad, seventh child of Tengku Ahmad ibni Tengku Abdul Ja'afar of Kelantan [HRH Tengku Panglima Raja Kelantan], and had issue, ten children, two sons and eight daughters. He died 22nd January 2010 at the Puteri Specialist Hospital, and was buried the following day at the Bukit Mahmoodiah Royal Mausoleum.
