PREDECESSORS AND SHORT HISTORY:
Raiatea, an independent kingdom, poetically referred to as Havai'i, is
regarded as the
legendary centre of Polynesian dispersion about 1300. Centuries later,
Tamatoa III
unites the several districts of Raiatea and becomes sole ruler about
1800, the ruler of Raiatea also becomes ruler of Taha'a, which up to
that date had been fragmented into several districts in 1831, annexed
by Tahiti, it regains independence in 1860, becomes a French
protectorate
in 1880 and annexed by France in 1888. Rulers were...

occurred only in June 1838; further troubles occurred in 1854 forcing
him to go into exile to tahiti where he died; married about 1812 in
Huahine, Ari'i Poatevarua Metua Teari'inoho Mahuta, Ari'i of
Vaiari, born 1796 in Papeari, and had issue, as well as adoptive
issue. He died 19th August 1857 in Pape'ete.

September 1842 in Moorea (#1), Crown
Prince of Ra'iatea and Taha'a from birth, he succeeded his adoptive
father and great-uncle on his death, he was unpopular with his subjects
and was deposed and exiled to Tahiti, married 12th July 1863, Ari'i rahi Moeterauri a Mai, born
1st July 1850 in Fa'a, died 12th December 1890, and had issue. He died
30th September 1881 in Pape'ete.

[xx.4.1881], born 1808 in Ra'iatea, he was chosen as the successor to
Tamataoa V and was crowned at the temple of Uturoa in August 1872, he
was responsible for the establishment of a French protectorate over
Ra'iatea in 1881, which caused an uprising of the majority of his
subjects resulting in his deposition in April 1881, married 1stly,

Te'e'eva Fa'atere'au (cousin of Queen Pomare IV), and had issue, eight

father when he came to the throne, and after his deposition, her
coronation in April 1881 occurred in a climate of discord, though her
short reign was marked by a return to political calm, she died sp on 18th March 1884 in Raiatea.

Teha'apapa II, he was crowned King on 22nd January 1885, Prime Minister
of Huahine and Mai'ao 1874/1884, he was coerced into signing the Act of
Annexation of Ra'iatea and Taha'a to the Republic of France on 16th
March 1888 and was consequently deposed as King and he returned to
island of birth of Huahine; he was named Chief of the district of
Tefareri'i in 1895 in which he remained until his death; married in
1885, Ari'i Tetuanuimarama,
born 9th May 1858 in Ra'iatea, died 19th December 1918 in Huahine,
daughter of Ari'i Tamatoa
Atiti-Oroi (see Papara), and his wife, Ari'i Teri'inavahoro'a, and had
issue. He died 15th September 1905 in the Royal Palace at Faré,
Huahine.
