On our recent trip to Quobba station for
a bit of land based fishing action the fish of
the trip ended up being this magnificent 19 kg
cod.
On a day that was just full of small
fish action, I decided to use one of them as
bait rather than throw them back into the water.
To my surprise, I had a huge hit reel it within
a minute. Unfortunately the fish spat the bait
so I decided to reel it in and give the same
bait another try this resulted in a huge hit and
hookup. I fought the beast for about an hour and
a half up and down the rocks I ended up bringing
it down to the surface close to the edge of the
ledge.
Luckily for me my gaff mate Nathan
wasted no time in securing the fish.
It made
my day and is certainly the best catch of all my
fishing days, ending with a few ice cold
beers.
