| For the tourist, the most obvious sign of the Galungan days might well be the Penjors lining every street. A penjor is a bamboo pole, bending over at the top, decorated with coconut leaf things, and things made from other material. One Ksatria (2nd highest caste) gentleman I met on a bus explained the significance of the shape of the penjor to me. What I think I understood is that the bend at the top signifies the wisdom attained with age (as is the bending of the spine). |
