Wildlife of Earthdawn -- Drop Bear

The Drop Bear is a terrifying and vicious creature. Largely unseen, it spends much of its life relegated to the very tops of the forest trees. It generally feeds on early morning mist and rays of sunlight which it gobbles up with gusto. The only signs of its presence are often the soft squeakings it makes as it consoles itself at night, high above the forest floor.

Drop Bears are largely creatures of mystery, having been largely unencountered by most residents of Earthdawn. From those that have come face to face with this terrifying creature, we have these two accounts:

Dorak (Dwarf) - See he is friendly, I told you - . . . (soft thud of rolling head)

Gadrin (Elf) - You have nothing to fear from these creatures. Why is he coming towards me? Why is he looking like that? Everyone run. Run!

Thus from these two vague accounts, we can surmise that an encounter with these creatures is not usually a pleasurable one. It is said that the Drop Bear has a nasty habit of surprising its victim. Likely victims may be wandering through the forests of Barsaive, enjoying its natural splendours, when suddenly the Drop Bear rockets from the tree tops to land in front of the victim. It then bares its fifteen inch incisors and breathes its putrid breath into the victims face. Its often impales victims with its ten inch claws before ripping their head off.

The moral of the story is clear.

If you should go down to the woods today...watch out for Drop Bears.
