Review

Until recently, I had never read Gulliver's Travels. I had, however, seen numerous versions made for television or movies and until the most recent version shown on television here in Australia, I never knew there was more to Gulliver's Travels than the big and little people. I was captivated for three hours (four minus commercials) at seeing the almost entire version. I was extremely please to see that they had gotten Trevor Jones -- the composer of one of my favourite pieces of music -- to do the score.

It took me a while to find out that the score was available, but once I did, I purchased a copy immediately. This soundtrack is just over 75 minutes long (big plus in my book) and contains 37 tracks (something which I was astounded with). This means there are lots of shorter tracks that would make it perfect to adding to dialogue, descriptions and events. My favourite track is the first, which would make an excellent opening sequence.

The music varies in flavour, and there is bound to be something to suit every occasion. The only tracks that annoyed me were the ones containing marching music (though they were suitable in the television mini-series). Most of the tracks have a dark, brooding quality to them that I love.

Overall, it is one of the best soundtracks in my collection, and well worth using to add atmosphere.
