Written by Scott Wintle
18 March 2011

On Saturday 23 Jan Eliza, Sophie and I headed down to Byron Bay for Eliza's friend Sam's wedding. We were early and went to the location on the map but there was nobody there. We called Sam but there was no answer. We drove around everywhere looking for them but we had no luck. So we decided to get some lunch and head up to the lighthouse. Later on we were told that the wedding had been moved to the campground due to flooding. We went to the party that night and had a few drinks. Click here to see the pics.

New Year 2011 ...
Written by Scott Wintle
18 March 2011

Unfortunately this was the worst New Years I have ever experienced. The FERAL neighbours that live in the other half of the duplex went crazy drinking playing loud music. Not only this but they smashed a dozen glass bottles on the road out the front and threw half full water bottles onto our tin roof at 2am. Our house was also egged and our letterbox was constantly raided. They were also verbally abusing us and taunting us to come out. Click here to see the pics.

They did manage a few trips away to Byron, Gold Coast and the Sunshine Coast. Click here to see the pics.

Written by Scott Wintle
1 January 2010

After having a very quiet night for New Year we got up early and went out water skiing in the Brisbane River. The weather between Christmas & New Years had not been good. We desperately needed rain as we hadn’t had it for six months. So we didn’t get out skiing until New Years day. There weren’t many boats in the river which was good. We all had a good ski and relaxed in Warricks boat. Click here to see the pics.

World Disabled Water Ski Championships - Vichy...
Written by Scott Wintle
3-6 September 2009

At the end of August I headed to Switzerland by myself leaving Eliza and Sophie at home. This was tough decision but we could not afford it after my above purchases. Anyway, I flew into Zurich where several of my friends met me at the airport. I was very lucky to stay with Hubi & Marie just outside of Waedenswil - thanks you both for your hospitality! I also caught up with Martin, Jasmin & Louis. Manu came over for a BBQ one night as well. After a few days at Hubi & Maries here, Click here to see the pics, they hired a campervan and we drove to Vichy. I met up with the team on the Sunday before the competition. We stayed at a sports centre which was very basic but cheap. We didn’t get back on the water until Wednesday. The site was challenging to say the least. The far side of the river had a concrete wall which the wake from the boat would hit and come back. Never the less the competition continued and I skied pretty well considering my pre-worlds training wasn’t great. I ended up winning Gold for Tricks, Silver for Jump, Silver for Slalom and Silver Overall. On the Saturday & Sunday Joerg & Sabine, Manu & Martin came to visit which was great. On the last night we had a great time at the presentation dinner. Click here to see the pics.

Manu then drove a very hung over Martin & I back to Zurich somehow. The next day I caught the train to Lausanne to see Olivia for a few days. Click here to see the pics.

After visiting Olivia I got back on the train and headed for Trudy’s house in Weinfelden. Stefan organised a farewell party for me on the Friday at a cool venue near his house. Click here to see the pics. On Saturday I went to Goldi’s house and had a lovely Raclette with his family, Gary & Regula. Click here to see the pics. Sunday afternoon I was back in Waedenswil where I caught up with Carmen & her boyfriend. Click here to see the pics. After that I went to Reto & Andreas apartment and met their new daughter Lia. Click here to see the pics. I also caught up with Jackie & her family & it was great to see them again. Click here to see the pics.

The next day I caught the train to Germany to see Joerg & Sabine. Here I spent 2 nights and it was great to see them again. Joerg gave me his old hand cycle. Click here to see the pics. They drove me back to Waedenswil where I had my farewell party at the Schutzenhaus. Click here to see the pics. The next day I had to organise the freight of my water ski gear and jump on a plane home.

Our New Car – Holden Rodeo 4x4...
Written by Scott Wintle
3 August 2009

After buying the boat I needed a car to tow it. Looking at many car websites I came across a 2002 Holden Rodeo LT Sports 4WD. Rodeo’s are good for me in that they sit a bit lower to the ground therefore making it easier to get in and out of. Eliza also wanted to upgrade her car so it worked out well. We sold her old car as well which was good. Click here to see the pics.

31 July 2009

After several years of casually looking at websites with boats for sale I finally found a good boat to buy and even better still, it was a Malibu. This meant spending my life savings though so it was a big step. I purchased a second hand 1998 Malibu Sportster. I was able to sell the Blue Beast quite quickly which helped out a lot. Blue Beast Upgrade
Written by Scott Wintle
Wednesday, 15 October 2008

For those of you that know the Blue Beast it was, at times, a temperamental beast who often required the services of 'start ya bastard' to kick her over. Well those days have now gone. The Blue Beast has a newer motor on the back. It's still a Johnson and a smaller motor at that (90hp) but it is much newer and much more reliable. A big thanks goes out to Jarrad for putting it on for me, re-wiring the boat and getting it all running. I really appreciate it! Lee is making me a new ski pole and I will pick up a Bimini for it this weekend. I also purchased a temporary shelter to house it so it stays out of the weather. I'm looking forward to the next trip to try it all out. Click here to see the pictures.

New Years 2008
Written by Scott Wintle
Wednesday, 09 January 2008

Well this year I wanted to do something different to the usual black tie ball in the city and I certainly did. The weather was wild due to the cyclone being close by which made it easy to stay indoors. Eliza’s brother, girlfriend and their daughter Hana came over and we made Pizza. It was a feast! Later on that night I ducked down to my brother’s place for an hour. We roasted marshmallows over the open fire and had a bit of a chat. I later returned home and saw in the New Year with Eliza. Below are some pictures from the night.

Eliza went to her parents' place for a late lunch while we had a seafood feast at my parents' place. I then went up to Eliza’s parents place for a while and then we returned to my parents' place for a swim. We also set up our new tent which was a Christmas present from Mum & Dad. In the afternoon we played Totem Tennis which was a present from Eliza to Warrick & Fabs. Click here to see pictures from the day...

Borumba Dam Water Ski Trip 1
Written by Scott Wintle
Wednesday, 09 January 2008

On the 7th December we woke up early and heading to Borumba Dam for 3 days of skiing, camping and drinking. It was a great time. We took both boats up there as we had too many people for just one. The water was flat and there were not too many people there which made it perfect for skiing. The campsite had fully accessible facilities so it was easy enough to get around. We had some heavy rain on Saturday night but it cleared up by 9am and we were on the water by 10am. Click here to see some pictures from the trip...

Mooloolaba Escape

On Thursday 29th November Eliza and I escaped to Mooloolaba for 3 nights at the Outrigger Hotel. It was great to get out of Brisbane and relax for a while. We went to Underwater World which was quite impressive and we went for a swim in the surf at Mooloolaba beach. We also called into see my friend Dave Dyer who lives at Currimundi. We went to the Dicky Beach Surf Club for dinner one night and kicked back with a few drinks. On the way home on Saturday we called into Bushies at Woodford and I picked up and tested my new Slalom water ski. It was very good and I ran my first pass which was pretty good considering I hadn’t skied since the World Champs back in May. Below are some pictures from our time in Mooloolaba. Open Garden

On the 17-18th of November my parents opened their garden to the public once again. The weather wasn’t looking good on Saturday morning and it was raining. This however did not stop people at all as they rolled in through the gate to get in early and purchase some of my Mum & Dad's plants. The Lions Club were there again and they did a roaring trade providing refreshments to the visitors. By the end of Sunday we had set a new attendance record with over 1000 people coming through the gates over both days.

Slam Down Under Basketball Comp

Wednesday, 09 January 2008

On the 26th of October I flew to Sydney and then drove down to Wooloongong for the Slam Down Under Wheelchair Basketball competition. My team was called the ‘Dream Team’ as Grant from Dreamy Donuts provided us with the singlets for the competition. Team members were: Adam Bates (4.5) Adam Latham (4.5) Grant Weston (AB) Matt LeBusque (2.5) and me (1). So there were only 5 of us which meant no substitutions or resting. We decided to enter the B Grade because of this. Some of the games were very close and some of the games were a blow out. We ended up winning the B Division and playing against a team from Wooloongong in the grand final. In one of the preliminary games we just beat the Australian Women’s (Gliders) team by 1 point. I scored the winning basket which made it sweeter. Below is a picture of our team.

EB Games Vendor Show
Written by Scott Wintle
Wednesday, 09 January 2008

Once again it was that time of the year for the EB Games vendor show. This is where all of the store managers from around the country as well as NZ come together on the Gold Coast for a week of training and a chance to view the new games from the game vendors such as Activision, EA, Vivendi just to name a few. The past 4 weeks had been very busy at work in the lead up to Christmas. We had many catalogues to design and a stack of POS for the stores. So it was good to finish it all before heading to the Gold Coast. There was also a ball at the Mariott and we went into Surfers later that night to keep partying. The following day at the Gold Coast Convention Centre was where we got to play/test all the new games. It was good fun and I scored a Nintendo DS Lite.

World Disabled World Championships

Back in May 2007 I competed in the World Disabled Water Ski Championships in the North Queensland town of Townsville. I did pretty well in the trick & jump events but I bombed out in the slalom event because I broke my slalom board a month before at the Nationals.

In the trick event I took out the Gold which was a bit of a surprise but I wasn't complaining. In the jump event I broke my board on the first jump of the finals. It was still usable but I couldn’t push it like I wanted to. I still brought home the silver which was good. I placed fourth overall but could have done much better if I had run a slalom pass.

It was great to have my parents, girlfriend and friends come up to support me. Townsville is a nice place especially at that time of the year. Many thanks goes to all the volunteers, sponsors and organisers for making it the best Worlds that I have been to. For more pictures from the event click here

The Classics 2007

In other news I played in the winning team of the 2007 State Wheelchair Basketball Championships held at Boondall Entertainment Centre over the Queen's Birthday long weekend. It was the first time that I had been part of the winning team for this event. Our team was called the ‘Icemen’. See picture below.

2007 Water Ski Nationals

On the 17-18 March I competed in the National Water Ski Championships on at Port MacQuarie in NSW. Eliza & I drove down on Thursday 16th March. The drive took us 8 hours as there were a lot of road works. We arrived at Stoney Park at 4pm so I was able to go for a quick ski before the competition on Saturday. This ended up being a bad idea as I had a big crash trying short-line skiing. I broke my slalom board and badly injured my foot in one go.

So Saturday rolled around and I decided to use my slalom board even though it was broken. Surprisingly this was not a good idea. I only ran 2 & ½ buoys at 46kmph. The board was even more damaged now. Next were the trick & jump events. I had a good trick run and scored 680 points. I hadn't been over the jump for approximately a year so I took it easy and landed 3 solid 16m jumps. My foot was still very bruised and swollen.

On the next day I decided to ride my jump ski on the slalom course as I had no other options. I ran my 46kmph pass and got 2 buoys at 49kmph which I was very happy with. Next was the trick event in which I ran a new Australian record by scoring 760 points (100 points more than my previous record set in Belgium). The jump event was the last of the day & I decided to 'go for it'. I jumped over 20 metres three times and bettered my Australian record from 20.2m to 20.9m. The world record is currently 21.7m so I am only 80cm from that. So with 2 new Australian records & the title of 'Overall Champion - MP2 Division' under my belt, it was time to relax and prepare for the drive back to Brisbane on Monday. I saw the doctor late on Monday afternoon, had X-rays on Tuesday to find that my foot was not broken which was good news.

Easter Water Skiing

Over the Easter weekend we went skiing in the Brisbane River on the Friday & the Monday. Both days were great and we had a lot of fun! Warrick has a tower on his boat now which is great. He also has a Sky Ski now. Check out the pictures below. He can land a back flip already.

New Years 2007/2008

Below are some pictures from the New Years ball 2007 at City Hall. It was themed 007 to coincide with the launch of the new James Bond movie, Casino Royale. We all had a great time. Click here to see the pictures...

FESPIC Games - Malaysia

I arrived back in Australia on the 2nd of December from the FESPIC games in KL, Malaysia. We came home with a Silver medal. We played extremely well throughout the series but went down to a full strength team from Iran in the Grand Final. It was a great experience and I thank everyone involved.

The FESPIC Games is the biggest multi-sports & multi-disability event for athletes with disabilities in Asia and Oceania and the second largest Games in the world, after the Paralympic Games. The FESPIC Federation have been organising the Games every four years, since the inaugural Games in Oita, in 1975 which saw 973 athletes from 18 countries. The last FESPIC Games was held in Bussan, Korea in 2002 which saw 3,800 athletes and officials from 43 member nations taking part in 17 sports.

KL06 AUS Basketball Team

Slam Down Under 2006

On the 29 September I flew down to Sydney for the Slam Down Under Wheelchair Basketball competition. This was a 2 day competition. We finished in 4th position. My basketball wheelchair was damaged by Virgin on the flight down but I managed to get it temporarily fixed but it was not 100%. I returned home to find my front fence and letterbox had been wiped out as well - not good. Virgin paid to get my chair fixed just in time for FESPIC.

National Wheelchair Basketball League 2006

The National Wheelchair Basketball League season for 2006 finished in September and we made it into the final 4. The team went down to Bankstown, Sydney for our first game against the West Sydney Razorbacks. Unfortunately, our star import, Patrick Anderson from Canada, cracked the frame on his chair in the first minute. This put him out for the first quarter until he could get his other chair ready to go. We were down by 15 points at one stage but came home strong. The lead switched quite often but the Razorbacks eventually were the winners 87 - 82. In the playoff for third, we played Dandenong who lost to the Razorbacks on Saturday afternoon. This game was definitely more relaxed but both teams still wanted to win. We lost 70 - 73. Perth then went on to defeat the Razorbacks in the final by 15 points. A good weekend was had by all. Tige was the MVP from our team. Pat had the highest scoring average per game.

Europe 2005

In October 2005 I returned from my European holiday and the World Disabled Water-ski Championships in Belgium. Here I came third overall in the MP2 Division. I achieved a silver medal in the Trick and Jump events and the Australian team came in third behind the USA and Great Britain. I also had a great time visiting all my good friends in Switzerland both before & after the event. Thank you all for looking after me and I hope to see you here in Australia sometime soon. Click here to see the pictures from the trip.

Before the trip, my position as a Graphic Designer at Tabcorp was made redundant. Here I worked for over 5 years.

Mum and dad are both doing well. They have both retired now and spend every spare moment in their lovely garden, (pictured below). My Dad has created a web site for their garden. You can find over 1500 images at:

Throughout my life, my partner in crime has been my younger brother Warrick. He has stuck with me through thick and thin and together we have had a blast over the years. These days he has settled down a bit and now lives in his own house at Birkdale with his lovelt girfriend Fabienne from Switzerland and of course, Diggity. Warrick works for Feliba Container Refrigeration and is the Queensland Manager.
