rottnest island lies 19km off the coast of perth, the capital of western australia. over the years rottnest has had a variety of functions for WA, including being a prison island for the indigenous peoples through the 1800's and also as a military installment during the second world war, but today is a favourite holiday destination for west aussies and visitors to our state.

the settlement on the northeastern side of rottnest includes chalets, cafes and shops.

protected bays, historic ship wrecks, prolific marine life and clear warm water make it popular for beach lovers and scuba divers.

the journey to rottnest island by ferry or fast boat takes about 30 minutes from the port of fremantle.
