Colin Patterson: Address at the American Museum of Natural History, New York City NY, 1981

Please note that the transcript I scanned this from was very poor quality, and although every effort has been made to check this electronic copy against the original, a small number of errors, particularly in numbers, may have inadvertently been introduced by me. Where I was unsure I have left spaces, e.g. ... . In some places the text itself has spaces where Dr Patterson was presumably inaudible. If anyone has a better quality copy I would appreciate any corrections.

It should be pointed out that this transcript, which was made from a tape recording at the meeting, was never officially authorised by Dr Patterson, but excerpts from it have been quoted widely, and as far as I know, he never denied its substantial accuracy. I understand that a copy was sent to him for his correction and authorisation, but unfortunately he is now deceased, and I am not aware that he ever issued a corrected version.

Of course, it goes without saying that Dr Patterson remained an evolutionist, despite his doubts about the adequacy, and even the scientific status, of much of modern evolutionary theory.

An audio copy of the tape is now available from Access Research Network.
