This is Chapter 6, Creation in the Bible, of the outline of a book that I plan to write on Progressive Creation.
Angels included in "all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible" (Col 1:16); "the LORD made the heavens ... and all that is in them" (Ex 20:11); "him...who created the heavens and all that is in them" (Rev 10:6); "the Maker of heaven and earth ... and everything in them" (Ps 146:6); "Lord ... you made the heaven and the earth ... and everything in them" (Ac 4:24); "God, who made heaven and earth ... and everything in them" (Ac 14:15). Angels probably referred to by "the heavens ... and all the host of them" (Gn 2:1; Ps 33:6; Ne 9:6) (Berkhof, 1958, pp.143-144). NIV's "starry" (Ps 33:6) and "heavenly" (Ps 103:21) are not in the Hebrew original. The phrase "heaven, the heaven of heavens, with all their host" (Ne 9:6 KJV) implies both stars and angels. The word "host" (Heb. tsaba') which primarily means "a mass of persons ...organized for war (an army)" (Rairdin, 1993) refers to angels elsewhere (Ps 103:20,21; 148:2,5) as does "host of heaven" (1Ki 22:19) (Berkhof, 1958, p.144).
Angels were created before the Earth: "when I laid the earth's foundation ... all the angels shouted for joy" (Job 38:4,7). [top]
