Steve (Stelios) Adam: Music and Sound Examples

Here are short excerpts of a few mostly recent works which hopefully provides some kind of overview of my sonic outpourings. I plan on getting some images on this page but for the time being, text only will have to do...

Live Computer Music

Simulus is a trio of a laptop based performers (who are also composers) Tim Kreger, Ross (AudioMulch) Bencina and myself. We have been busy recording some new material. You can get more info and hear a few earlier examples of our work on this page

Site-specific work

Common Sounds was held as part of the WaterWater Festival in November 2005 and located at the Sale Common Wetlands Reserve, just south of Sale, Victoria. The insallation had to be self powered and cover a large area, so there were numerous technical challenges in realizing this project. There is plenty to say about his piece but hear an excerpt of the endlessly evolving Common Sounds. This short example is busier than the piece generally was as it contains a mix of multiple output channels of which only a part of would have been heard at any location on site.

Composition work

Recent composition work includes an electroacoustic work for recorders and (real-time) computer commissioned through Arts Victoria by the wonderful Genevieve Lacey for a forthcoming CD release. You can hear an excerpt of the piece which was recorded by Jim Atkins in the Iwaki Auditorium (ABC Southbank) in September 2006.

'Aerotechnica' (which is a little more 'lyrical' than my usual output) was commisioned by the Esso BHP Billiton Wellington Entertainment Centre in Sale, Victoria to comemmorate the Centre's opening on the 14th November 2003. It was an accompaniment to an aerobatic display by the Roulettes who who operate out of the East Sale RAAF base. Aerotechnica excerpt (2.4 Mb mp3)

I have spent some amount time in the past few years doing various flavours of Electronica, and some remixing. Here is a piece that illustrates my take on old school drum and bass (which seems to be mostly out of f(l)avour these days): DnB11excpt 1.6Mb mp3.

Many years ago I was in an electronic group called the Informatics. There is site that features some of our old (and more recent) music but the page seems not to work on all browsers. You can hear part of a recent remix I have done of a track called Big Buildings. 0.9 Mb mp3
