Swan Star Party
2004

RULES AND ETIQUETTE

With such a large number of people we would request that attendees observe the following courtesies:

RED LIGHT ONLY is to be used outside after dark.  Please turn off all internal car lights - if you can't, please cover them with some red cellophane or red cloth.  White light destroys night vision - and you don't want to be yelled at by the people whose night vision you've just destroyed!  If in a caravan please block off all the windows or if tenting please be aware that a white light shining through a tent wall is still too bright.  (This rule will only be lifted in completely overcast conditions).

No vehicle movement will be allowed on the observing field after full dark.  If you arrive after this time you will have to carry your equipment from the lower car park.  It's only common sense and safety as well as courtesy for other people's night vision.  Emergencies will be excepted.

Do not touch a telescope without the owners permission.  There may be catches or levers you don't know about and cant see in the dark which could result in damage to the telescope if used incorrectly, or they may be in the middle of an involved observation.  Most telescope owners will happily give you a look if requested, but please respect them if they decline.  There will be several telescopes made available for general use that will be supervised by Society members if you do not have one of your own.

Loud music is not acceptable under any circumstances, anywhere - if you must have loud music please use headphones that only you can hear.   Please remember that not everyone may share your taste in music.

Please be quiet around the sleeping areas at all times.  After being up all night observers would like to get their beauty sleep!
