Here we have a page totally dedicated to the latest developments regarding the temple building project. This is your page ; this website is merely making the space available and whilst I am happy to publish news of any developments, you people are the ones who fill it up.
If you have any information or comments that you wish to share with the devotees, simply email it to me at the link below and I can copy the email and format it for the web page; it's not only me who has access to publishing my views, you too can have your say concerning this project which we hope to have well under way by the time Srila Gurudeva arrives for his next visit. I have prepared a countdown clock so that you can see for yourself just how little time we have till 31st of January 2005, assuming that we have that long. If you wish please click on the link to see the countdown clock.
NB: The page will close automatically in 14 seconds and return you here to the news page. If you wish to return earlier than 14 seconds please use browser back button to return to this page when finished consulting the countdown clock.
Hot off the Press: Last update ... 21Sept04
The latest developments as I am aware of them are:
There have been rumours that we received a large donation recently towards the temple building fund, and I would like to quell these rumours and make it known that it is not a rumour but a fact; we did receive a sizable donation on Srila Gour Govinda Swami's appearance day ...very auspicious. Find out how much at your next attendance at Nullum Street. We are not in the habit of posting our bank statements on the internet.
It was decided at the meeting of April 8th to persue Raghunatha Prabhu's proposal of building a small demountable on the Nullum Street land. A request for donation pledges to cover the cost is current; if you can asssist please contact Raghunatha Prabhu. Pledges totalling over $8000.00 were received on the day.
A meeting is planned for 2PM, Sunday the 8th of August 2004, to discuss the temple building project.
The 24 hour became a 25 hour and was a real success. Whilst we may not be able to do 24 hour kirtanas often, we may be able to do 8 hours once a month. Vastly improves consciousness.
Raghunatha dasa prabhu is appealing to people to come and join in a Maha Yagna 24 hour festival of chanting to both please the Lord and His perfect servant, Srila Gurudeva. In his own words:
Dear Devotees,
dandavat pranams, all glories to Sri Sri Guru and Gauranga.
This is the very auspicious month of Purusottama.
It is already mid - July and we don't have a Temple.
It's time to do something about it.
Sankirtana is the yajna for this age.
It has been proposed that we perform a Maha Yajna during this time to invoke
the mercy of Sri Sri Radha Krsna and Srila Gurudeva, so that they may
enlighten us as to how to fulfil Srila Gurudeva's order to get our own
Temple in Murwillumbah.
We are begging all devotees to join in this yajna - a 24 hour non-stop
kirtana - on Shuddha Padmini Ekadasi, starting sunrise Wednesday 28th July
and continuing thru to sunrise the following morning. {NOW SCHEDULED FOR
THIS FRIDAY 23RD JULY !!!)
We can work out a roster so that there is a kirtana happening continuously.
Everybody should be able to come for a little while and hopefully many will
stay for a long while.
We desperately need to do something as time is running out.
Please let me know if you are enthusiastic to join in.
What have we got to lose?
What have we got to gain?
Please invite everyone you know and let's do it!
Begging for the mercy of the vaisnavas
Raghunatha dasa
So be there or be square; try to contribute a little dedication to Srila Gurudeva's order, and show up for at least some time or other. Like Raghunatha prabhu says: "What have we got to lose?"
FRIDAY 5.00 PM
GOING THROUGH TO THE SATURDAY PROGRAM. Jaya Haribol!!!!!
Mathuranatha das Prabhu has been investigating a large block of farmland up on a hill just 8 kilometres north of Murwillumbah. He envisiages being able to fund the purchase as well as building a temple on the land by multiple occupancy and mall sales, under the shelter of our tax free status as a religious organisation. Persons interested in buying into this farm project or assisting with building this temple either by direct donation or via sales work in malls should contact Mathuranatha Prabhu.
Caitanya Chandra, on the other hand, has his sights set on much bigger things. He is currently investigating the feasibility and available options of purchasing the old empty bank building next door to the Murwillumbah Motel down the far end of town in Wharf Street. (just this side of the swimming pool). The cost of this premises at around $770,000.00 including GST may well prove to be the biggest stumbling block as repayments of $1,200.00 every week for over thirteen years may be beyond our organisational ability as a group, although other, more financially affordable options are available to secure the premises as a temple, which may be acceptable to us as a community. The building itself is magnificent and would make an excellent temple, and situated as it is right near the restaurant and "nite life" section of Moo-bah makes it a perfect choice for a restaurant; Tweed Shire Council would probably disagree with the bank premises as a restaurant venue, but the coffee shop nearby is for sale at a reasonable price. There is an area upstairs that looks like it was once a rather large tea room that would serve as ideal for the brahmachari ashram. The current owner maintains that council permission has been granted to build two more flats within the premises, on the upstairs floor. All in all, this is a very desirable location.
I don't know how many devotees have considered it, but before anyone considers selling or discontinuing the purchase of the Nullum St. land, I suppose we really need to get permission from EVERYBODY that donated any money to that project as it was their choice to have enough faith in us to donate to that project, but they may not be pleased to hear that we have discontinued the project without returning their donation, or at least securing their permission to utilise their donation for another, albeit similar, project. Some persons may even see it as a kind of fraud. If anybody has any thoughts on this or any other relevant topic, or if you have any further information and / or comments that you wish to share with me or the devotees at large, regarding these or any other building projects, please send your email to the contact below.
