This was our longest trip (so far) undertaken covering some 16,800km over a period of three & a half months from August to November 2003 reaching the top of the Cape in mid September 2003.  The route taken was from Perth to Laverton; the Anne Beadell Highway across to Coober Pedy, up to Alice Springs, the Plenty Highway to Mt. Isa via Urandangi, proceeding then to Cloncurry, Normanton, Karumba then the Dunbar/New Dixie track to Musgrave; crossing the Mitchell River (just north of Dunbar) without difficulty & on up to the Cape via Weipa, the Overland Telegraph Track to the Jardine River, crossing on the ferry & on up to Seisia which was our base camp.  No vehicle problems were encountered although we came across one 4WD which had rolled over on the Cape Bi-Pass Road & several trailers with either broken springs or busted axles. They just did not drive to the road conditions.  The return trip was back down the Overland Telegraph Track because the corrugations on the Bi-Pass Road were just too severe & uncomfortable to handle.
