AIDAN'S DIARY - SEPTEMBER 2000

3 September 2000
Mum and Big James' birthday. We spent the afternoon in the Swan Valley dining on wood fired pizza and local wine. Tough, I know, but somebody has to do it.

Aunty Flo voluntarily picked the short straw for hospital duty. Before we blink, it's time for another round of chemo.

Aidan had been prancing about with his newly made Olympics "torches" in preparation for the Opening Ceremony. Unfortunately for him there was lots of other "stuff" that got in the way of the final torch relay. He endured some of the spectacle, but then gave up in disgust. After what must have been an eternity for a small boy, the relay runners finally made their way into the Olympic Stadium and set the cauldron ablaze.
For some time prior to the ceremony, Aidan was fully aware of the "Olympics", but only when it related to the torch relay or some companies promotional banter. Nevertheless, I think he was happy with the final relay.

Aunty Flo escorted Aidan to hospital for a "routine" transfusion. Aidan was paid a visit by some officer from the US submarine Trapinga which had made a brief stop in Perth. He was given a promotional pack with an action picture of the sub, an introductory booklet and assorted trinkets. Every little bit helps for a little person who can become quite bored sitting in a bed.

Aidan returned home from school lethargic, grumpy and with a raging temperature (again). He spent the night at hospital with Nanna. He has possibly collected the same virus as dear 'ol Dad and will in turn be rather unhappy for some days to come. He may well spend the remainder of the week in bed with anti-biotics. The fun never stops.

Yep, I was right. The young man spent the rest of the week abed. He returned home today.

Aidan has been quite interested in the Olympics and taken to making olympic torches and drawing the olympic flag.
One of these "flags" made its way to the Olympics in Sydney with a staff member from Aidan's ward (3B). As yet, we don't know the name of person who undertook the pilgrimage.
