AIDAN'S DIARY - MAY 2001

2-May-2001
Trish and Aidan spoke with Dr. Baker regarding the inconclusive lab results and the immediate future. Nothing new to report except another MRI in a few weeks and then ... we'll just wait and see. Aidan is otherwise in fine form.

Allllssssss weeeeaaaalllllll. So far so good. Aidan has had no problems from the recent surgery. In fact, the only indication that he had surgery is a purple line running across his head. We'll count our blessings.

Aidan's next MRI is slated for the 6th of June. To paraphrase Forest Gump ... "An MRI is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're gonna get".

News reached us early this morning that Kevin William Mansell (Trish's grandfather on her mother's side, and Grandpop to Aidan, Caitlin and the twins) died from a sudden heart attack. It was a long day for the Mansell family. Aidan, in typical stoic fashion, took the news in his stride.

We said our last goodbyes to Kevin William Mansell at a church funeral service near the family home in North Fremantle. All of the children, some of the grandchildren and all of the great-grand children attended. Such events are never joyful, but a wonderful speech by Geoffrey Mansell lightened the mood and paid tribute to a World War II air-craft gunner who fought for his country, and a devoted father and husband. We moved on to Fremantle Cemetary to lay the remains to rest amid a tear-rendering rendition of The Last Post and a final tribute was read by Guy Mansell.
Aidan and Caitlin were thoughtfully silent during the proceedings, but Caitlin was a bit distraught after the coffin was lowered. She spent much time scattering rose petals. Aidan scattered a few petals too.
