AIDAN'S DIARY - JUNE 2001

06-Jun-2001
Today's MRI was postponed until further notice. The hospital hosting the MRI had a power blackout. We can breathe easy a little longer.

At the tenth hour, rather than eleventh, we received confirmation of another MRI for Aidan, to be held ... tomorrow.

The MRI went ahead without any problems. We're now awaiting the results. Don't worry, be happy ...

The Cat In The Hat Came Back. More importantly, it never went away.
The results from the MRI are back and are none too welcome. The surgeons missed the tumour by the smallest of margins. Not only is it still where it shouldn't be, but it's had some time to grow in the past 2 months. There is really only one options at this stage ... more surgery.

We spoke with Mr. Wong, Aidan's neurosurgeon today. He confirmed what we already knew. Surgery is the only option available. He apologised for the mistake, which helped somewhat, but didn't alleviate that helpless feeling of being dragged into a situation you just don't want to face (again).
I would like to note at this point that despite their brilliance and the fact they save lives almost daily, neurosurgeons make mistakes like everybody else.
Mr. Wong suggested the use of some equipment available at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital that could track their progress in a 3D model of Aidan's head. He had suggested the equipment last time also, but did not expect the results to be any better than a manual approach. That's debatable of course, but it is certainly an approach worth pursuing now.
Mr. Wong brought Aidan back from the void during his first surgery. We just hope he can perform another miracle.
We're waiting upon notification of a booking for surgery.

Dr. Holthouse, one of Aidan's neurosurgeons, called today to confirm that surgery will take place on Friday 13th of July at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital. The little man will be transferred to ICU at Princess Margaret Hospital after surgery.
