AIDAN'S DIARY - DECEMBER 2002  - SCHOOL MEMORIAL

AIDAN'S FAREWELL

By John Paton
11 December 2002

Welcome

We’re here to celebrate Aidan’s life with us here at Walliston Primary School and to bid him - Farewell

Following my words the school choir will sing.

Then there will be some readings by some of his friends at Walliston.

Then Julie, our chaplain, will talk to us

Following Julie all of you will be able to select a balloon and attach your own special message to it. Your parents, your buddies, your classmates or your teacher will help you if you need it.

We’ll then all let our balloon – there are 500 of them - go together. Julie will talk to you about this.

Aidan Telcik was special. He was special to all of us at Walliston.
All of you are special too – to your parents and family and to your friends - and to your teachers

Aidan was special to his family, his friends, to his buddies - and to all the staff at Walliston

Aidan was special to us all and now he’s not with us any more.
Today is our chance to say Goodbye or Farewell to our friend.

Nearly all the time Aidan was at school he was a seriously sick little boy who often was in discomfort, in pain and would have been confused and bewildered by what was happening to him. He didn’t complain.

His family trusted us to care for their son. They knew he loved to be with his teachers, his helpers and with his friends. That took a special courage from them to share that special time with us. And we thank them for that.

He loved school - his friends and his teachers and his helpers.

Mrs Thomson, his teacher, and his helper Mrs Hegedus and earlier Miss Murphy, were also generous - often sending Aidan to the office to show off his newest creation, his writing, his art or the latest costume. He loved a chat – so did we!

We all appreciated his wicked sense of humour and his sense of fun.

Aidan joined in enthusiastically especially in news sessions and with art and of course he loved dressing up as a character. He was a bit of a character himself!

He loved life – so he didn’t waste a single minute

Most of all we all admired Aidan’s courage – and we will miss him.

What can we do to show we were touched and inspired by our friend Aidan?

We can try to be like him.

We won’t whinge and moan about little things. Be brave, show courage – especially when it’s very hard to do so, - especially when it’s hard!

That’s being just like Aidan

Don’t waste a minute of your precious life. Join in and take an active interest and take part in the things going on around you – at home  - at school  - wherever.

Enjoy your life.

Aidan did. He joined in to everything with enthusiasm and he liked people and that showed. That’s why he had so many friends.
Do that and you will be just like Aidan.

Aidan’s life was short – far too short - and we’re very sad about that.

We’ll all miss him. Aidan Telcik was special.

Farewell to our super hero!

I’ll now call on Mrs Alderson and the choir to perform for us. The song they have chosen is an appropriate one - and it just happens to be one of my favourites.

“Tears in Heaven” by the Walliston School choir..

Readings – To Farewell Aidan We have a number of Aidan’s friends or buddies who have written some very nice things in his memory

Brett - Mrs Thomson

Julie Reynolds our Chaplain will now speak to you.
