The first time I heard kenickie, was on the 'Drastic on Plastic' show on RTRFM. All I have to say is this - THANK YOU SO MUCH RTRFM. I never ever would've heard of this great band, if it wasn't for you guys. So thanks!
This has to be, the greatest band I've ever heard. It's british punk/rock w/ 3 chicks and a guy. It's a real disappointment that they broke up. This was way back in '98/'99 or something.
So, out of this great band, came three albums and numerous singles. ATM, I only have two albums - 'At The Club' and 'Get In'.
The first song I heard, was called 'Punka'. It was such a cool song, that I must've heard it about 30+ times before I went hunting around for it at the local music shop. I had to order it, but it was worth it!
Lauren laverne, the leader singer, has to be one of the most beautiful woman I've ever seen and that's not an overstatement! Last time I heard, she was hosting a show, somewhere in england, or london or something.
Highlights from this album are mostly the 'hot' songs including 'Millionaire Sweeper', 'Classy' and 'P.V.C'. Well, those are my faves anyways.
'Millionaire Sweeper' has to be my fave. There's something about this song, that I can't get enough of. It's the melody and the lyrics that make it such a classic hit. I highly recommend EVERYONE listen to this song. Or maybe it's just me. I'm sure hundreds of people can't be wrong!

After their biggest hit album, 'At The Club', Kenickie released 'Get In'. Unfortunately, it wasn't their best work and that was about the time they broke up.
It wasn't because it was a so-called crappy album, it was like a real sudden u-turn, a huge 360 for them. And a lot of people didn't like this!
There's a lot of songs on this album that has 'disco' touches to them. I'm not sure if this was one of the downfalls of the album, but personally, I didn't mind it.
But I can understand how a lot of the old Kenickie fans felt. 'At The Club' was a great album and we all got familiar to their 'british-punk' style. For them to charge up, and release this kind of music, is kinda disorientating actually.
Oh well. It's a real pity 'cause they were a great band. Pity.
Ok. On to the songs!
'Stay In The Sun' is a weird opener for their album, especially since listening to their previous album. But as you listen down the track, it doesn't really feel out of place.
'I would Fix You' is a classic hit. It's got this 'sunny-day' feeling to it. BTW, I'm not a pansy, but it really is a great song. It's the sort of stuff that turns a frown, upside down. The lovely voice of Laruen Laverne would make anyone happy!
The next song worth mentioning, is 'Run Me Over'. Again, it's another good pick-me-up song, but mostly for Kenickie fans!
Talking about 'disco' style songs, this has to be one of the coolest songs (besides 'I Would Fix You') on the album, if somewhat out of place! It's quite different actually but it's very, very catchy to say the least. I highly recommend you listen to this song, just to see what 'else' they're capable of.
As for the last song 'Something's Got To Give', I just have one thing to say. UMM. WHAT IS THAT? This is supposed to be a punk/rock band playing punk/rock, why is this old-style kind-of music in there? Oh well...

Hmmmm. I guess it's worth a listen, but I highly recommend listening to 'At The Club' first. |

Definite buy if you're a true kenickie fan. If you're a 50/50 kenickie fan, it's worth a listen to before-hand. |
