Hazards
Food
Dangers Unfortunately, there are two deadly enemies to dogs in Western Australia and many people have lost their beloved pet because of them. Snakes: Westies are very inquisitive and love to explore. Areas around lakes in Perth are the home of many snakes, some of them poisonous, and often there are no signs that a dog has been bitten by one, until it is too late. The 2 most common varieties are:
Brownsnakes
Tigersnakes The other danger around homes and gardensheds are spiders, in particular the Redback, a close relative to the American Black Widow Spider. I can vouch for that as I have been bitten by one a few months ago, a fairly painful experience.
Redback spider (only females are dangerous) So please, don't let your westie hunt in the bush and clean up your garage and garden shed!
