Puppy Foundation Class

The above image shows some of our "just for puppies" equipment. The images below show some single pieces of equipment ably
demonstrated by "Lacy" our young Portuguese Water Dog owned and loved by Megan Kelly and "Cricket" a 14 week old Border
Collie baby trying her paw at agility stuff for the first time.

This class is for puppies aged from 12 weeks to 12 months. In this foundation class we teach the following:

  • The Importance and How To of PLAY with your puppy - there are many games we play to help you and your puppy become a
team and build a strong relationship. Everything we do is based on having FUN - if you are not having fun guaranteed your
puppy is not having fun either!
  • Basic Obedience relevant for Agility - ie Attention (getting your puppy's attention on you is the most important aspect of foundation
training), all positions (sit, stand, down) plus the Wait command.
  • Flat work - getting your puppy to work with you on either side of you in a loose heeling position.
  • Targetting - using a target to help with contacts.
  • Hind Quarter awareness - helping your puppy to realise he has 2 back legs!
  • Working away - teaching your puppy the basics of the 'Go Out' command.
  • The Beginnings of the Weaves
  • Introducing different surfaces and the sensation of movement under their feet.
These are just some of the skills we begin to touch on however there are many more to be covered before your pup reaches 12 months of age.
