For uninformed humans, they can be antisocial. The gorgeous pup they got at the pet shop turns into a large "cranky dog" that's too much of a handful. Seriously too much. Maremmas take care of their own, whatever that turns out to be, and if you can't guide them as to what that should be then ..... oh, hell.
They are not reliably obedient. They think. They make up their own minds what should be done. They had to be bread for this quality since they are left alone to guard animals - they have to work out what should be done on their own. Like wolves and other wild dogs, they have a strong sense of family and pack responsibilities and the capability to think things out by themselves.
And then there's the physical side to them. None of the above is any use if they aren't allways big, strong and fit.
You have to bring them up carefully. You have your work cut out - all day every day. They are big, tough dogs - get it a little wrong and youv'e got big tough problems. Don't have them unless you really don't muck around ... you will have to succeed in raising them with strength (and deserving to be pack leader)
