THE TERM LINE DANCING: is a general term used to describe, line formation - sequence dancing, which can be done in many styles. Country Line Dance (Bootscooting) seams to the most recognised but line dancing can also be performed in other styles like Latin, Funk, Disco and Pop. THE TERM BOOTSCOOTING: is a "slang" term used to describe country western forms of dance, including Country Line Dancing, Clogging & Country Partner Dancing like West Coast Swing, East Coast Swing, and Country Two Step. (Although in Perth it seams to be more commonly used to describe Country Line Dance). THE DEFINITION OF A LINE DANCE: is a choreographed dance routine with a repeated sequence of steps, in which a group of people dance in one or more rows of lines (without regard for gender) all facing the same direction and executing the steps at the same time. Line dancers are not generally in physical contact with each other, although some line dance routines can be done in lines where the dancers face each other (contra), or where the "line" forms other shape, like a circle. COMMON MISCONCEPTIONS ABOUT LINE DANCING:
WHAT TO WEAR: You may wear Western Clothing if you wish, (quite a few people do), But generally regular casual wear is the norm. Comfortable footwear is a must ensuring they are secure and will not slip off your feet. They need to have enough grip to stop you from slipping over but still allow you to have some slide on the floor. So sneakers are not always suitable as they can grip too much on some floor surfaces. You'll generally find most low heeled dress shoes are fine. DANCE SHOES: Once you have decided that line dancing could be a long term hobby for you, you may wish to invest in a pair of dance shoes. Ballroom Practice shoes (cuban/block heel), Jazz/hip hop sneakers, jazz character shoes (cuban/block heel) and Western dance boots are all suitable.
