3 - Way Active Crossover
Elliot Sound Products Project P09b
+
Power Supply P05b
INTRODUCTION
Having always been impressed with the concept and results of using active crossovers for HiFi, I decided to turn my hand to building the Project 09b, pcb's produced by Elliot Sound Products
If you haven't already done so, I suggest you read Rod Elliot's articles on Bi-Amping and those construction articles that relate directly to the P09. It is always a good idea to read the ESP forum to gain first hand experience from the people who have actually built the project, or have contributed their time and knowledge to helping others.
SPECS OF THE UNIT
P09 rev b. 2 boards, each set up for 3 way mono.
Crossover points are 825 Htz and 3241 Htz.
Volume control pots (16mm) for low, mid, treble (50k log, dual gang). Wired onto strip board,
with stand offs.
Polyester MKT style caps used throughout the signal path.
Unbalanced input.
Op Amps: TL072cp for input and output buffers. LM833's for the crossover section.
Audio wires, shielded. Most hardwired to the boards, some standoffs for tricky to get to
areas.
20k trimpots used in buffer section.
RCA inputs, separate grounding. Outputs - common grounding.
Power supply: P05b. Aux outlet powers LED on power on/off switch.
Transformer DSE M2860 (0.5Amp). 350mA inline fuse.
The box is constructed from MDF, undercoated inside and out, and finished outside with charcoal coloured hammer finish spray paint.

CONSTRUCTION NOTES
I suggest using connectors for the various hookups. I mostly soldered mine, but his can be a bit tricky at times.
CONCLUSIONS
Well worthwhile. I recommend buying Rod's boards, very robust and well laid out. Easy transaction and fast mailing. The ESP forum is a mine of information and you should be able to get help, if like me you hit a few pot holes.
FUTURE WORK
As material allows, I may build an aluminium box for the crossover, mainly to reduce any potential fire hazard and perhaps better EMR shielding. Quality 24mm trimpots would be the go, the 16's are a tad noisy.
