The large
open plan living room is the centre-piece of
Arum
Retreat. A small bar seperates it from the adjoining
kitchen. The living area
is environmentaly designed and perfectly positioned. The rammed
earth feature walls provide insulation from the extremes of
seasonal variation, maintaining a comfortable temperature
all year round. The house is north facing, allowing in plenty
of light during the winter, but denying the midday sun duing
the summer. There is a large slow-combustion stove in the
middle of the room. There is a large Marri dinner table that
seats 10 comfortably. The entire room opens up to the veranda,
with spectacular views over the eucalyptus trees and river
valley. There is a gas barbie that any Aussie would be proud
to call their own. Sit back on the deck, sip your Margaret
River red, as you enjoy the sun going down over the Leeuwin
Ridge.
