1.  Unidentified flying objects were first reported after the war from Sweden in the summer of 1946 and for some months there was a considerable number of alleged sightings mostly in Sweden but a few also in Norway,Finland and Germany.The descriptions given were usally of some sort of wingless missile travelling at high speed,cigar shaped or cirular sometimes omitting bright lights and occasionally sound.The reports attracted considerable attention in the press,where the objects became known as "Ghost Rockets" or "Spook Bombs".The reports died away after the summer of 1946 and very few have appeard since the end of that year.............see full document,

The Ministry of Defence department that investigated UFOs sightings has been closed after almost 60 years, it has been disclosed.
The MoD department, which has dealt with more than 12,000 reports – including 135 last year – was used to assess threats posed by any Unidentified Flying Objects sightings throughout Britain. Any reports made would now not be investigated or followed up as the hotline had been closed,.........

After 30 years of collating sightings and field investigations, GEIPAN*, the French unit responsible for researching and investigating unidentified aerospace phenomena (UAPs), is putting its archives on line. Making these records available to the public is the culmination of the new policy and focus the unit has adopted in the last few years.
In putting its full archives on line today, GEIPAN is hoping to focus the attention of the scientific community on these unexplained phenomena, which could conceal truly revolutionary scientific discoveries. And there is plenty of material to study, since GEIPAN–s archives amount to the equivalent of 100,000 A4 pages.– from Le Geipan

Project Magnet 1950

In 1950, a senior radio engineer from the Department of Transport,Wilbert B. Smith, made a request to his superiors to make use of a laboratoryand the department's field facilities in a study of unidentified flying objects (UFOs) and the physical principles connected to them. Smith spearheaded Project Magnet with the purpose of studying, among other occurrences,magnetic phenomena, which he believed would open up a new and useful technology.The goals of Project Magnetwere fueled by the concepts of geomagnetism,and the belief that it may be possible to use and manipulate the Earth's magnetic field as a propulsion method conducted by Smith were reported in November 1951 and they stated that sufficient energy was abstracted from the Earth"s field to operate a voltmeter at approximately 50 milliwatts.Smith believed he was on the "track of somethingthat may prove to be the introduction to a newtechnology."Smith believed that there was a correlation between his studies and investigations into UFOs: "...the existence of a different technology is borne out by the investigations which are being carried on at the present time in relation to flying saucers.... I feel that the correlation between our basic theory and the available information on saucers checks too closely to be mere coincidence" (Smith, Geo–Magnetics, Department of Transport,November 21, 1950).It was believed by both Smith and other government departments involved,that there was much to learn from UFOs.   Friday, May 20, was an historic day for Ufology in Brazil, and around the world, as the Brazilian Air Force (FAB), for the very first time in its history, officially received a committee of top UFO researchers to openly discuss UFO sightings in Brazil and fully examine classified government UFO documents in several military facilities in Brasilia, the Federal Capital.
By taking this very important step, the Brazilian Air Force (FAB) has placed Brazil on a very short list of countries whose militaries acknowledge that Ufology is a serious activity and a significant effort to fully understand the nature and origin of UFOs. "We want to have all info on the subject, that is withheld by us for some decades, fully released to public, through the UFO community", declared Brigadier Telles Ribeiro, chief of Brazilian Air Force Communication Center.
The Brazilian Government, through the Brazilian Air Force, finally decided to come forward and recognize UFO research as a genuine activity as a direct result of intense pressure by the campaign, UFOs: Freedom of Information Now, a movement started by the Brazilian UFO Magazine in April 2004. – By A.
