A float can be used to indicate when a Mackerel has taken the bait. Blue Mackerel are very easy to catch once they get into a feeding frenzy. The trick is to use a good oily berley, but sparingly. Once you have caught one , use a small piece of it as bait as they are cannibalistic and their flesh is very oily and stays on the hook very well.

They also respond very well to baitchaser rigs and short stabbing movements up and down will do the trick nicely.

As a bait they are extremely effective on Mulloway as fillets or whole live or dead fish.

Baitchaser rigs are very effective, use a small sinker at the end to give weight to your line as this will make jigging easier.
