Flathead can be taken on flies such as "clousers, crazy charlies, and minnow style flies Flathead are very good at hiding in weed and sandflats so stealth is required when lure or fly fishing for them. The Swan river is alive with flathead during the summer and make good sport on light tackle.

 

For fly fishing try the clouser range available instore.These will take both flathead and flounder as well as bream and sometimes even Giant herring.

 

 

Most small minnow type lures will take flathead and the fast/slow retrieve method will excite nearby fish into striking.

 

Baits for flathead consist mainly of fish pieces and whole river prawns.

A good all round rig for both flathead and BLACK BREAM is a running ball sinker and a #2 bream hook with a whole river prawn threaded onto it-head down.
