| A float should be used as garfish are timid biters and sometimes hard to detect. |
Garfish are very shy and can at times be very fussy. Berley
is an almost must and a small bait is necessary. Prawn
pieces are best with small pieces of garfish coming a close second. Don't strike to soon or they will spit the bait. Let them wander off for a
second or two before setting the hook. Play them gently as the hook may pull out of their soft
mouths. Descaling is easy, just place your thumb in their mouth and using the other
hand wrapped around them, drag the scales off. Point their bellies away from
people as a jet of excreta will fly out.
