Bushplan Now Bush Forever?

Bushplan was a State government initiative to create a bushland reserve system to represent the different ecosystems of the Perth region. The draft was completed in 1998 and the report from the Working Group was submitted to the then Planning Minister, Graham Kierath earlier in 2000. The previous Government released Bushplan as Bush Forever on Boxing Day 2000. While the initiative is an important step forward in that it recognises areas of regional significance and protect some new areas, there are still some major concerns. The Labor election policy offered some notable improvements to Bush Forever including protection of Government agency land and an increased role for the EPA in the assessment process.
