Title "Cape of Good Hope"

Evening Cape
The starting point of this design was a simple sketch of a shell. I wanted to suggest the richness of colour and texture found in living sea creatures and have used hand dyed silk velvet, trapped fabric, thread and stitching to add to the overall vibrancy.

Title – “Piece by Peace”

This garment was inspired by my childhood memory of
peaceful English fields and
woods.

Many small embroideries have been worked on water-soluble fabric and
pieced together to form the foundation. Hand-
dyed silks create the softly falling skirt .

Title – “Armadillo”

Inspiration.
The cape was inspired by the
bony plates of the Armadillo.

Techniques.
39 overlapping segments
create the form. Each segment
has been textured and decorated
with applied fabric, cord, braids,
machine embroidery, fabric
paint, dyes and metallic powders.

Won 1st place in the Cape Section of the
Fashion Fantasia 2002 in Hobart.

Title“High Fandangle”

Description.
Evening wrap, hat, belt and
bag

Technique.
Machine made cords joined
together to form the shaping before falling
free to give length. Tassels, embroidered
shapes, hand made beads have been used to
give weight and movement.

Title "Cape Turtle"

A small sketch of a turtle shell was greatly enlarged free hand to form the design. Dyed and commercial fabrics have been applied using free machine stitch. The piece was worked as a whole and took 88hrs to complete.

Title – “Marshlands”

Long Evening Coat inspired by
an aerial photograph of African
wetlands. Techniques used
include layering and
manipulation of hand dyed
fabric and threads, worked on
water- soluble.

Title - “Mantled"

Inspiration: drawn from coral
reef.

Techniques:
Heavy textures created by
manipulating fabric. Cords,
wool, strips of fabric twisted
together and loosely couched.
Threads and fabric scraps

caught in organza to form raised areas. Wool
tops, silk tops, threads, twisted in pantyhose
and organza to create balls.
Hand dyed cords looped and stitched.
